Austin isn't going to be a push over. They've quietly and strategically assembled a roster that will compete. It may take a handful of games to put it together, though, I think it's good we get them early. It might be a different game the second time around. I love what FCD is doing but that's the team he had to finish above. I think our youth has a slight advantage.

First actual game playing together, No way, maybe 2nd time around but anything less than 6 points for Rapids will be a disappointment to me.

Sort of bummed Austin is coming here. Really wanted to travel down to see the Rapids beat Austin in their new stadium. (Lived in Austin a long time ago and used to go see the semi-pro team all the time. Super small crowd back then!)

They're a western team, decent odds we'll also go there this season.

    Congrats to Vines and Lewis!

So if the US qualifies - which is a fair possibility - I would imagine these two would also get called for the Olympics

The Olympic soccer matches are currently scheduled for July 21st - August 7th. Hopefully our schedule isn’t packed with midweek games during that timeframe like it normally is during summer as we would be without them for quarantine periods both before and after the Olympics

I don't if the schedule is easy or not, but remember the first 3 games of the season qualify you for the US Open cup this year.

As far as I know that hasn't been made official, that's just the rumor.

Alsop the Olympic qualifying roster is largely MLS/Liga MX players because clubs aren't required to release players for it. The actual Olympic roster will include our European based players so there's no guarantee either Lewis or Vines makes it. I think Vines still has a good chance but I doubt Lewis would be on the roster.

Saw this company on Facebook a couple of days ago. You can make tactical outlines of famous goals and have them printed and framed. They also have a number of stock goals. I made one of 'Celo's bike from 2000 but didn't see a way to share it so I asked them and they built it themselves and added it to their stock goals. I thought some people here might be interested.

One note, they have the minute of the goal wrong, I asked them to update it

I have had similar questions. Here's a list of players over 24 that are likely to get important minutes this season (Not including keepers):

    Oldest to youngest:
    1. Nicolas Benezet
    2. Michael Barrios
    3. Nicolás Mezquida
    4. Danny Wilson
    5. Jack Price
    6. Keegan Rosenberry
    7. Diego Rubio
    8. Lalas Abubakar
    9. Younes Namli
    10. Kellyn Acosta

I left out Kortne Ford as he's missed a couple of seasons.

And under 25, oldest to youngest:
    1. Jeremy Kelly
    2. Jonathan Lewis
    3. Andre Shinyashiki
    4. Auston Trusty
    5. Sam Vines
    6. Braian Galván
    7. Philip Mayaka
    8. Cole Bassett

I left off Michael Edwards as I figure he's going to play this season with the Switchbacks or the reserve team.

Sebastian Anderson seems like he could work his way into the 18 at some point, given what we saw of him in 2019 and Oliver Larrez is another youngster that could make a move into the first team a well.

Of those on the young side, VInes is a lock as a starter. The others will be in a competition with more experienced players to get onto the pitch.

From the initial season to (presumably) 2021 there has been a chain of 4 players where at least one of them have been on the roster at the start of every season. Can you name them?

(If you included the head coach along with the rostered players you can get this down to 3 names. If you include all team employees you can get it to 2 names. I don't think anyone in the Rapids organization has been there for all 26 seasons.)

As an example of the above, with a coach, using Dc United. Jeff Agoos was in DC from '96-'00, Ben Olsen was in DC from '98-'09, then coach from '10-'20, then anyone from the current roster would cover '21.

FSL has announced their preseason match against us on Saturday April 3rd at 6pm will be streamed on KSL.com. Last year many of us in the Denver area were able to stream our games against FSL when they were on KSL.com.

I don't know team employees as well, so I'll avoid that challenge.

    First attempt:
While he didn't start or play in the first game the first game, and technically didn't join the club until three days before the home opener, my starting place is Balboa, as he was allocated to the Rapids on February 5th, 1996.

    Balboa (96-01)
    Mastroeni (02-13)
    Powers (13-17)
    Ford (17-Current)

    That work?

    Attempt 2 - without Balboa:
    Trittschuh (96-99)
    Bravo (97-01)
    Mastroeni (02-13)
    Sharpe (08-Current)

Attempt 3, to get to three names:

    Balboa (96-01)
    Mastroeni (02-13)
    Chris Sharpe (08-Current)

First one counts, not the chain I had i mind but it works

The second chain includes a non head coach (Sharpe). The second challenge was players and head coach. And technically Sharpe was never on the Rapids roster as a plyer, he was the league pool GK as a player, but he trained with the Rapids when not needed by another team. So much so that the team considered him a member and he flew to MLS Cup with them in 2010. So you can only count the years he was with the team as a coach for the 3rd challenge.

I was actually going off of this blurb on his bio on the Rapids site:

So according to the Team he's been the Academy Director since '08 at least, which is why I included him from '08 forward as that places him under the "Team Employee" criteria portion of your challenge

Huh, I didn't know he was GK coach for the Academy the whole time he was a pool GK for the league.

There's still a 2 person chain covering all 26 years if you use all team employees

First 20min looks good for the rapids so far against Portland in today's scrimmage:

    Players out:

Hard to tell from the first preseason scrimmage for sure, but it sounds like Namli and Barrios are going to be, as Richard Fleming so eloquently states: "Lively"

Sounds like we continued to do what the Rapids do, and get pushed back....however, we survive Portlands onslaught and:

Good to see Benezet and Namli drawing cards - especially given that it's preseason. Couldn't find anything on the Portland lineup, but the fact that cards are being given out in a preseason scrimmage means that Benezet and Namli were being annoying enough to warrant some rough tackles.
