Brobbey atm is a nobody when he shows up at a top club. The stars give a shit about who he is without credentials in top matches. Also if he goes against advice from Raiola, who knows Brobbey most likely will play alot in the CL with Ajax and can add points to his resume, the most likely trajectory is that of other too early movers and Raiola doesnot like that.
Yeah but Traore has been in shape for a bit now. He's been on the bench a bunch of matches/played 90 a few times with Jong but Brobbey is getting these late runs. I guess there's the whole Haller Europa league issue too where you need another forward. I'm curious if Brobbey didn't get the offers he expected from abroad and has second thoughts. I do not think Ajax would be playing him this much if he was for sure gone.
There are a lot of Raiola managed players who left Ajax too early and failed to develop a career so I don't agree with what you are saying here. Raiola only cares about his bottom line and not the player's development. If he can cash in he will. This is the reason that Ajax and Raiola don't get along. I think his first Ajax player was Zlatan way back in the early 2000s.
Raiola just does whatever the player wants him to do. His tactics of doing so are always extreme and shady. But de Ligt could have left a year or two earlier and cashed out. He stayed because he wanted to. Brobbey NOT in squad today and is fit. This whole thing is so strange.
A fairly routine win 0-3 but could have been 0-5 with some better finishing. Ajax move on to meet Vitesse for the Beker. Martinez was my MOTM as he was just devastating defensively at both LB and then in the middle when Blind came off for the 2nd half. He had a lot of very good passes. Haller was subpar on the night and should have had a couple of goals. Player Ratings: Stekelenburg (6.5) - had nothing to do in the first half and then came up with a big save right after Tadic converted from the spot to keep the clean sheet Martinez (7.5) - outstanding match defending and passing Blind (6.5) - decent enough in the only half he played Schuurs (6.5) - caught up too high right after the Tadic goal which led to a free man in on goal other wise a solid game Timber (7) - split his time between the RB and LB position and did not miss a beat; he is so good with the ball at his feet Alvarez (6.5) - won the ball well but was poor defending the break in on goal as he was too far off his man Gravenberch (6.5) - better match tonight than in some past games Klaassen (6.5) - very nice headed in goal to win the match but still displayed a very poor touch with the ball but we are all use to that Tadic (7) - good control of the ball and again deadly from the spot Haller (5) - average and no better Antony (6.5) - wonderful assist on the first goal and did well with the ball down the right side Klaiber (6) - good match from someone who is third choice RB in the full half he played Kudus (6) - much better match coming in for Klaassen and drew a penalty on a good run Neres (6) - nice goal and just on sides for it Idrissi (NR) - on late and saw little of the ball Ekelenkamp (NR) - on late and had a good run into the box but lost control of the ball Groningen on the weekend with an early kick off for those of us on this side of the ocean. EL picks right back up with a match against Young Boys
Raiola was not his agent until de Ligt's final season. He was being handled by former Ajax defender Barry Hulshoff who played on the Euro treble team of the early 1970s.
Ihattaren rumors to Ajax getting louder: https://www.telegraaf.nl/sport/1246...ax-heeft-genoeg-geld-om-mo-ihattaren-te-kopen @Orange14 would you want him on our team?? I'm assuming he would have to compete with Kudus for MF spot
It is always dicey taking on players who Raiola represents. Everytime I've seen him play at PSV he is more like a winger or an outside MF in a 4-4-2. I'm not sure that he is direct competition for Kudus and I don't think he is better than Neres or Antony.
Are you going to invest alot of money in a problem giving player? Don't think so. Ajax has sent players on the road for less. Noa Lang anybody?
Maybe sign him to just a 1 or 2-year contract?? That way if he starts to cause problems you can just give him the boot
What some of us thought might be a tight match ended up an easy 3-1 win for Ajax. It was only marred by some poor defending on a set piece where a free header got one back for Groningen at the end of the 90 minutes. Ajax solved the defensive-minded visitors quite easily and should have added to their goal total. Ajax again went to a three man back line with Martinez anchoring the center with Alvarez and Gravenberch on either side. It turned out to be a free flowing formation with Alvarez sometimes pushing up field and Timber dropping back. Lots of good performances on the day and I'll single out Tadic as the MOTM for his excellent play with the ball. It was harsh to have the missed PK called back but the right call as the Groningen player who went in early was the one who headed the ball away after it hit the cross bar. Had he not touched it, I suspect there would have been no retake. Player Ratings: Stekelenburg (7) - came up with two big saves but other than that it was routine with just a lot of kicking to do Tagliafico (6.5) - good to have him back in the lineup; decent enough on the day but rather quiet going forward Martinez (7) - solid game manning the center of defense Alvarez (7) - first match on the back line and he continued to be a force winning duels and making some good interventions, it was his shot that drew the hand ball for the penalty Timber (7.5) - just another wonderful game from a player who is so cool on the ball and sees openings to run into, had he not had a poor touch on the one run into free space he might have had a spectacular goal Gravenberch (7) - got out of his recent funk with a very fine match; he took his chance well on the first goal Kudus (5.5) - still rusty and had some cheap give aways Klaassen (6.5) - industrious as ever Tadic (7.5) - very fine match from the captain Haller (6) - got the match winner on an easy tap in but had some poor decisions, lingering on the ball too long Neres (7.5) - very fine on the day with some excellent passing and field awareness Ekelenkamp (6.5) - came off the bench and put in a fine shift with some good passing and pressing Idrissi (NR) - on for the final part of the 2nd half Antony (NR) - on for the final part of the 2nd half Labyad (NR) - on very late Thursday Night Lights, the Euro version continues with a match against Young Boys coming right up followed by a trip to take on PEC Zwolle
Kudus looks like a different player. I really hope they're extra cautious with him. He doesn't look right. Huge match on Thursday. With a win, the Netherlands would hop to 7th in 22/23 Coefficient rankings. That would mean there'd be a very good chance next years winner of the Eredivisie would be in pot 1 for 22/23 CL. Also works if Ajax can get 2 draws.
He was put in the 6 position, which was criticized on tv, as he was a bit lost in that spot with several situations not going into the right spot to cover the defense.
Stekelenberg; Rensch, Timber, Martinez, Nico; Gravenbersch, Alvarez; Neres, Klaasen, Antony; Tadic Brobbey, Kudus, Traore some of the options on the bench.
I have stuff to do this afternoon and will watch the replay when it goes up on Paramount+. Player ratings much later on today.
Decent first half by Ajax, should have finished one of their many chances. Missing Blind for the quicker buildup from the back. And man, I'm so tired of watching Ajax play against these kind of awful teams. Young Boys are so shit, less than 30÷ possession, all they're doing is sitting back and parking the bus, hoping for a counter. ******** these teams. Ajax has had a lot of chances and Antony really should have finished his big chance, that would have forced YB to do something (can they actually create anything that isn't a counter?) Games not over, YB are a typical shit team that wins with on a lucky day. But if Ajax wins this fixture can we please play against a fun attacking team like Ajax next round? I like to see actual football be played...
Yeah, wow! Ajax defense has looked strong, giving absolutely nothing away. Apparently YB have scored in their last 9 european games. Ridiculous yellow against Tagliafico. Glad we got a goal! Ain't nobody here waiting to see more games with this trash YB team... Arsenal, Tottenham, Roma, Rangers, Ajax and Manunited in the next round please! This extra round in the EL has added so much trash. Let's get some exciting european nights again!
Brobbey makes it 3. Ajax should easily advance now. If they keep playing like this they might just win the whole thing
I legitimately think with Haller and Onana Ajax would have been perhaps one of the top-2 favorites. Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham those are the other three major teams. Manchester United is probably the favorite but after that i'd say Tottenham and Arsenal are no better than Ajax. Even without Onana and Haller we're definitely a contender. And man there is nothing as enjoyable as watching a negative football team get punished. What an absolute shit team Young Boys are, even 2-0 down they did nothing but park the bus. Come on, you're 2-0 down! At least try to get an away goal! Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them anywhere near as much as Granada, Valencia, and all of those whiny playacting teams... But man in terms of football quality Young Boys were just so so so bad. That being said, Ajax was very strong and the defense was solid!
I was thinking this + how bad is the Swiss league if they're up by 21 points? Dominant performance. I really think there's a chance that Brobbey re-signs.
Ryan Gravenberch is easily my MoTM. Dominating performance... especially in the first half. Almost all traffic flowed through him. Second half he was a bit sloppy on a handful of occasions - but still got a clever assist in the end. With his level of confidence (maturity), it's hard to believe he is only 18 years old. Hope he keeps improving - immense talent!! Also... Netherlands goes above Russia in the coefficients list and they are now sitting pretty at 7th.
I think #7 is the rightful place for the Dutch league. Top 4 are clearly Spain, England, Germany and Italy. After that 5/6/7 should be France, Portugal and The Netherlands. Portugal beats out The Netherlands on account of the unfortunate fact that the other Dutch teams besides Ajax are simply failing in Europe. Historically and even theoretically currently Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, AZ shouldn't necessarily be worse than Porto, Benfica, Sporting, Braga. Unfortunately PSV and Feyenoord have been failing the last 15 years so #7 is the rightful place for the Dutch league. Glad to be back up there!
