2020-21 Offseason Player Movement

Peter Vermes picked the absolute perfect time to sell Dom Dwyer all those years ago.

He got absolute maximum value out of that sell.

 

Rapids made two homegrown singings today, 19 year old midfielder Oliver Larraz and 16 year old forward Darren Yapi. Yapi is the youngest signing in team history at 16 years, 104 days. He signed a 5 year team with a team option for a 6th year.

 

I thought it was a steal for SKC then, and it has become even more clear in the ensuing years.

 

Crew have loaned Sebastian Berhalter to Austin for the season,with option to buy/trade for.

Crew also have finally announced the Marlon Hairston signing.

The next Gheorghe Hagi?

 

I wish. Bezatchenko was clear that this wouldn't have happened but for the new U-22 rule. I have no idea if this kid is any good. BUT, Bez noted that he comes from Hagi's academy, which develops talent for his club, Viitorul Constanța, that Hagi founded in 2009, as well as other pro clubs in Romania. The whole purpose of this set-up has been to develop young talent to sell to Europe, but now they want to sell players to MLS, as well. Will this guy be any good? Time will tell. But the academy looks to be the best youth development program in Romania.

To date, most big transfers have been to Belgium and the Netherlands, via Viitorul. In 2019-20, they sold a 20 year old attacking midfielder, Ianis Hagi, to Pozuelo's former club (FC Genk), for $5+M (he's since been sold to Rangers for less than that).

We just hope he speaks some English. My Romanian is a bit rusty.

 

Hopefully he becomes the first Alexandru Matan.

Here's details of the current deal that Orlando City have with Barnsley...

The deal will include an option for Barnsley to buy Dike from the Lions. The current option is priced at $20 million for 80% of Dike’s rights, according to a league source.

If Barnsley were to buy Dike and then sell him to another club in the future, Orlando City would receive 20% of that future sale. If Barnsley goes through with the option to buy, it would be the most expensive sale in the history of Orlando City.

I can't see Barnsley exercising that option unless they get promoted.

Is anyone else not surprised that Billy Beane's team plays route 1 football, a style that became popular in the 1950s and 1980s based on a (flawed) statistical analysis.
