Thursday 4th March 2021 Premier League Liverpool V Chelsea Venue: Anfield GMT: 20:15 3.15pm EST Assessing Tammy Abraham, who suffered a minor ankle injury in training on Tuesday. Callum Hudson-Odoi is in, but Thiago Silva remains out. Encouragement for the optimists. . . Liverpool could win five successive league games against Chelsea for the first time since 1972-74. Chelsea have won just once in the past 12 league meetings with the bin-dippers, drawing five and losing six. The Blues have lost 23 Premier League fixtures versus the Reds, more than against any other opponent. The Toosh is winless in all seven away matches against his German compatriot Klopp, drawing two and losing five. Only Antonio Rudiger, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mateo Kovacic have appeared in all nine matches under Tuchel.
My Chelsea predicted lineup (3-4-2-1): Mendy; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; James, Chilwell; Kovacic, Kante, Havertz, Mount; Werner 5-2-2-1 right?
No idea what to expect. Fortunately their losing streak was already broken so they can't use us as a springboard.
I read somewhere a week or so ago that Liverpool now have the worst 2021 home record in English football. On that basis, and the tight race for top 4, I think we have to win today. Tuchel will want to avoid defeat as a priority but I really hope we see some guts with both the team selection and the effort on the pitch. We shouldn't need to get 'up' for this one but we can't assume Liverpool won't pose a massive threat with their half dozen remaining Balon D'or nominees they can throw at us.
Chelsea: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, James, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell, Ziyech, Mount, Werner. Subs: Arrizabalaga, Alonso, Pulisic, Zouma, Kovacic, Giroud, Hudson-Odoi, Havertz, Emerson Palmieri.
Well, I kinda hate the lineup. Jorginho back. Ziyech has been terrible. Mount at wing. God speed tho.
No wingers and 5 at the back. Ziyech and Mount playing inside right and inside left. Werner all alone up front with his speed.
Liverpool playing 4-3-3 1Alisson 66Alexander-Arnold 3Fabinho 19Kabak 26Robertson 6Thiago Alcántara 5Wijnaldum 17Jones 11Salah 9Firmino 10Mané prediction lots of goals and Chelsea winning by 5.
What kind of a drunk comes up with this lineup? What has Billy Gilmour done to Tuchel? If we weren’t going to play him, he should’ve been off on loan. Brings so much more than Jorginho.
I think that Kante and Jorginho is the worst combination so I expect Man of the match performances from both
Fond memories of Ian St John. Saint and Greavsie was my favorite football programme of its day primarily due to the personalities of the hosts.
Pretty one dimensional gameplan which is what worried me before kick off. Play for the draw, hope for a breakaway goal by feeding werner. Recipe for disaster against a very top heavy side. Hope I'm wrong.
