Read a lot this week about Astori. He was really becoming a great player in his old age. I read up on his pagelle and he was getting 6.5 or a 7 rating more often than not. The way he was playing for La Viola, especially with the lack of Italian defenders, Astori could very well have made the national team had Italy made the World Cup. Between now and May, there was still many games to be played, in and out of form players , not to mention injuries. Therefore, I don’t see why Davide couldn’t be considered even as a reserve player. The only thing that many have hindered his chances was his time at Roma. He didn’t have a great season when he was there and that could have set him back when it came time for selection.
