Potential bad news, Canales is currently nursing an Injury and could be pulled from the U23 depending on how he recovers or depending on what Queretaro decides. Rigo Rivas participation is in doubt because Regina doesn’t want to release him until the official FIFA match date which would fall on our third game vs Canada, Fenafuth are negotiating to try to bring him in much earlier but if they can’t then he will be called up to the Senior Team instead who will play both friendlies in Europe. https://www.diez.hn/laseleccion/144...shua-canales-con-honduras-preolimpico-cocacaf
For the upcoming friendlies Coito should not call up Maynor, Boniek, Beckeles and Emilio anymore. None of those dudes are going to make to 2022 nor should they. I also feel that Alex Lopez at this point is just taking up a roster spot idc how well he is playing for Alajuelense I want to see more promising youth take over. I feel like Michael Chirinos, Kevin Lopez, Deybi Flores and Jhow Benavidez need to be called up regularly all them have a real chance of going abroad and need to be featured more when they can.
Jonathan Rubio leaving Tondela was a bad move in hindsight, we will have to wait and see what happens but i hope that he at least manages to move up to 1st division somewhere when he finally gets his Euro Passport. Boavista's shitty defense could potentially cause them to descend if they don't manage to fix things, positions 7-18 are very tight right now. It would suck massively if both Boavista and Nacional descend.
I think Jorge Benguche will be back with Olimpia by summer time.. Bryan Rochez will probably bounce to another Liga NOS team so no problem with him.. dude's a bonafide performer at this point. Plus before he joined Nacional, he said he had offers from big Eastern European clubs, so at least the European market has opened up for him if all else fails in Portugal. Elis will probably be loaned out to a first division side if they do relegate so again, not worried about him.
https://www.transfermarkt.us/jonathan-toro/profil/spieler/382773 regarding Jonathan Rubio.. Yea he should've stayed at Tondela, but its not all bleak at Chaves for him. Hopefully he can regain previous form.
Rigo Rivas scores a double https://www.diez.hn/legionarios/144...ie-b-italia-spal-video-hondureño-jeremy-menez
Reports from Italy that there are 3 Serie A teams interested in signing Rigo Rivas this summer, two are Mid Table teams and one higher up in the table. If the interest is real then I think that Inter will loan him out again to continue his development, if Rivas and Rubio can manage get in to 1st Division Europe this summer it will be huge for our future. https://www.diez.hn/legionarios/144...nteresados-en-fichar-rigoberto-rivas-honduras
I always thought he might be one to fade away from the tier he started out at as he's not the most prolific goalscorer. Without watching games it's hard to judge what level he's at but it's good to hear Serie A sides are interested. I fear Rubio's stock has probably dropped considerably from last year so he might find it harder to land with a better side. Hopefully his agent can work a bit of magic though.
Jamaica National Team is going to be really good now that a ton dual Nationals that play in the UK are going to make the switch. Canada also has a their best generation this cycle, both them and Jamaica are on the rise and could be big threats. https://www.diez.hn/fotogalerias/14...aterra-ascendencia-jugaran-mundial-catar-2022
It would be interesting to see how many of those players actually make the switch. If they did though the Reggae Boyz would be serious contenders.
This all sounds a bit too good to be true so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. I'm not going to bet on seeing all of these guys in Jamaica kits this year. But you know the old saying: where there is smoke, there is fire. And the head of the JFF going on record confirming these players are not merely being spoken to, but have actually started the process for a passport application...that is A LOT of smoke. I doubt we see Aarons specifically. I also think that we will not see ALL of Toney, Hayden, Demarai Gray, Redmond, and Holgate. But will we see, maybe, 2 or 3 of those names? That suddenly seems likely. And the rest of the guys (Roofe, Andre Gray, Liam Moore, plus Michail Antonio) were already known to be committed and ready to go days before this news broke - even by themselves, with no other names to be added, they are significant additions.
https://www.concacaf.com/en/olympic...lero-gearing-up-honduras-for-another-cmoq-run is titled "Falero gearing up Honduras for another CMOQ run." CMOQ means Concacaf Men's Olympic Qualifying. At senior level, the FIFA Rankings are close with you in 64th, El Salvador in 70th, Canada in 73rd, and Haiti in 84th. How many players do you expect to play in CMOQ (and the Olympics if you qualify) and WCQs? The Semifinal will be hard as the other group has Mexico, USA, and Costa Rica, who should all beat Dominican Republic. At senior level, Dominican Republic is 17th in Concacaf and 159th in the world.
Not bothered about having Danny Acosta in the set up. Ever since he turned down signing the transfer papers he left a bitter taste.
https://www.diez.hn/laseleccion/144...goberto-rivas-guadalajara-reggina-preolimpico I didn't expect Acosta was going to show. At least they may get Rivas for a game.
Rivas is confirmed to only miss the 1st game, Acosta for whatever reason doesn’t want to play for us. We should just bar him from the NT at this point, no point in calling him up.
That's a lot of foreign based players compared to our last 2-3 Olympic cycles. Btw if Luis Palma continues his form w the U23s, it's going to be a nasty attack for Honduras. On paper we look super duper solid. We'll see how they hold up on the field
Official list is out.. mmmmmm not that confident anymore.. Carlos Pineda, Yeison Mejia, Jorge Alvarez, Wisdom Quaye.. I felt not having them might hurt.. not sure what Obregon offers seeing he plays a super low level in USA. Goalie situation behind Guity sucks.. no true wingbacks in defense, one injury or red card spells doom. Compared to the Pan American team how does this squad stack up?
No Quaye? How come I thought he was a lock in? I did think the same about Obregon but as I wasn't sure what the true level of the USL is I gave him the benefit of the doubt. By the same token, I thought Facusse might be decent cover or even the first choice as he played college level in the US. The key let down from the start has always been not having Jorge Alvarez and Pineda. If it was just one it wouldn't be as bad but from the Olimpia crop they're two of the most experienced to lose. Ultimately with this tournament though, I think it depends on the opposition you get on the day and how they turn up. As it's over such few games there's an element of riding your luck.
No Casildo, Pineda and Alvarez are recovering from serious knee injuries.. No Ilce Barahona or Yeison Mejia whom I rate above Obregon n Argueta... Idk... Besides Arriaga and maybe Edwin Rodriguez, the mid is super disappointing. Defense really doesn't have any wingbacks which further questions the absence of Casildo n Quaye. I feel like squad depth is going to be a huge problem. I don't rate high our chances to make it back to the Olympics after seeing how this squad was assembled. We'll "probably" be eliminated by the time Rigo Rivas makes it to the tournament.. Oh and lastly, bringing three goalies seems like overkill, but it is what it is..
Vida president confirms that Santos of Brazil has interest in Carlos Melendez and Luis Palma. https://www.diez.hn/liganacionaldeh...-vida-santos-brasil-preolimpico-toninho-silva
No Quioto or Rochez despite the fact that Lozano was injured and instead he calls up Bengtson lol. Still happy that he called up Alvarez, Deybi, Paz, Pereira, Benavidez and K-Lo would have liked to see Chirinos in there too. Maynor better not start dude is a fossil at this point.
