Morris's season at Swansea is over after suffering ACL damage in his last match. Can't find anything as to the severity yet beyond Swansea's manager saying it's "significant ACL damage".

Maybe an orthopedist can answer that question. From personal experience I suffered a torn meniscus simply jogging down the street near my house about 5 years ago. I was on level pavement, put my foot down in stride and felt my knee "wobble". Last time I ever jogged. Prior to that, no indication of a problem at all. Had surgery to fix it in early 2019 after my knee swelled up because the torn flap was irritating things. Fortunately, mine was a simple tear, like ripping paper and not a sort of crumbling tear that is much more difficult to repair. On my second visit, the Doc was mentoring someone from Walter Reed and he told her, "normally we don't perform surgery on someone this old, but he's active and reasonably fit and the tear was a simple fix." So, at least I wasn't yet Soylent Green material in his eyes.

my meniscus was in rags and the surgeon had to remove almost half of it - and thats the good knee

Ouch. In my case less had to be removed. It is only with athletes that they try to "repair" a torn meniscus. Like most joints, blood flow is meager and many "repaired" meniscuses (menisci?) actually don't heal and the rehab process is quite arduous.

Thierry Henry is stepping down as Montreal's coach for "family reasons".

I thought this would be code for "leaving to coach Bournemouth", but they already hired their replacement, and it's not Henry.

Edit to add: Family reasons are because Montreal's going to be stuck in the US for months due to Covid, and that much separation is too hard on his kids. I can buy that as a reason.

Reason 6,438,902 that a sports league playing during a global pandemic is dumb.

I have coached 85+ games and practices for 7 different youth sports teams during the pandemic. It has meant the world to these kids to get out on the field and play. For several, their parents have told me it has made a massive difference in their mental make up. This is all I need to keep playing.

Teen suicide among athletes is way up during the pandemic.

The mental strain and anguish caused the pandemic will be felt for years among those who survive. I feel so bad for both my kids, in their late '20's and single and they have been locked up out of circulation for over a year with nothing but virtual and very occasional in person meetings with their friends. I'm old and this sucks, but they are in their "prime" and it has been like they've been in a coma for the past year.

I have two teenage daughters who haven't been to school in almost a year. One is fine, but the other is drowning. Her grades are plummeting and she has become super depressed. It's scary, and I feel helpless. At first, I thought, 'this is great! There won't be any hormonal teenage boys, like I remember myself being, pawing around them, but I would rather she have some torrid 'love' affair with some a-hole than what she's experiencing now.
I'm getting her some professional help, and that is the advice I'd give anyone in the same position. Move heaven and earth to help your kids right now, it's probably worse than it seems.

Your situation tears at my heart. I have school-age grandchildren who are going through this, but at least they are in actual in-person class in their private school. I wish Covid vaccine priorities would move teachers to the front of the line - and young people thought to be at risk - so that schools, with all their educating and socializing could reopen everywhere. Instead, they give vaccinations to old farts like me (born under FDR - second term) who are long out of the work force and are just marking time until it all ends. I do pay a decent amount of taxes, though!

The advice about professional help should be repeated over and over again -- it literally can be a lifesaver.

No, we're in Arlington, I'm not familiar with Forest Oak.
Thank you for the kind words. I don't share these feelings b/c I don't want to be a sad sack, especially now, when the times I see friends are so infrequent. So a soccer forum where I can post anonymously is where it has spilled out.

He hasn't seen his kids in over a year. Canada is super locked since a year ago almost, with no sign of starting slowing down these restrictions.

It sounds like CONMEBOL's upcoming World Cup Qualifiers at the end of March are in jeopardy because all 10 South American countries are on Europe's red list for Covid, and European based teams are highly unlikely to release any of their players to go to SA for qualifiers, only to have them come back to Europe and quarantine for 10 days after playing.

That's going to be interesting to see how they (UEFA & CONMEBOL) sort that all out!

The Reuters article I read said CONMEBOL really doesn't want to play without European based players, but the schedule is limited as to where they could fit in rescheduled games due to Copa America being this year. One suggestion was to get FIFA to create a special window so they can move the games to before Copa America, but we'll see.

I guess they haven’t gotten to LA Galaxy level where MLS changes the rules for them. Just wait.

No doubt. We old dudes can forget how crucial interacting with your peer group is as a teen or 20-something. Their brains are literally wired to need it.

I'm single (and relatively social for 5-something) and the frequent isolation of this last 12 months has sucked, for sure, but on average the mental toll on young people is worse. My heart goes out to them.

Vaccine and masks! Let's end this f@#king thing.

Yunus Musah has committed to the USMNT. This squad, potentially, is the most talented and deepest, maybe in team history. I'm still amazed by the 2002 WC side, but in reality those guys just overperformed. I don't think they could replicate that performance consistently.
