Proximity to the pitch and sight lines means most to me, but if Audi needs trough urinals for purposes of "character" then by all means lets tear the old, stained urinals out of RFK and give them new life - or at least new urine.
I just don't get these sight lines comments. But I was always low behind the goal in both places, so my view did not change one bit. Thus another reason Audi Field does nothing for me.
It has little character, but the location is fine. Lots of places to go to before and after matches. The real issue is what’s actually operating inside the place. Total train wreck.
I agree with @Hedbal regarding sight lines at RFK. I had various seats behind Barra/SE at RFK. You were a long way from the pitch and the gentle slope of the seat rows didn't give you a good look at the whole field. I later moved to the Mezz and at least had a better view of the field, but getting to the seats meant walking through standing water and, often, something else "standing" when I went to piss at halftime. My seats at Audi Field are 14 rows up and near midfield. I'm on the west side, so no squinting into the setting sun. Also the seat pitch is great, I don't have to look around folks in the row below me, I'm already sitting over the top of their heads. Much, much better. And speaking of Memorial Stadium, if you think parking is a mess for Audi Field, well, you clearly never tried to park near Memorial Stadium.
There haven't been seats behind either goal in a looooong time at RFK, prior to the move. Front row seats are decent at the new stadium. You're up 10-15' above field level at a minimum. That's got to better than any behind the goal view you'd have ever had at RFK. While I think our stadium lacks character, that's a tough one. And 100% Levien & Co weren't spending a dime on the kind of things that make people want to hang out and have an experience. Austin & Columbus have a chance to see what those sorts of features might be. The experience was Rooney & $15 cocktails I don't think Nats park has much either TBF. Certainly not on par with Camden Yards or Jacobs Field in Cleveland.
I like the Banc (or whatever it will be called) but the experience is the game, fans, location. It is a nice stadium but I'm not in the luxury areas which are quite nice (a small pool), deck, etc. There are tons of places to eat that are varied, good beer all over, local food court (open all the time pre-covid). But the stadium is a stadium.
For all the complaining about how expensive DC United season tickets are, at least we're not paying what Charlotte is asking for season tickets for their inaugural season. PSL included! Full season ticket prices for Charlotte FC’s inaugural season. These are some of the worst prices I’ve ever seen for a professional soccer team at any level. pic.twitter.com/W7AkrpxxmV— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) February 19, 2021
See my seats in section 120, before Baseball were great, behind the right hand post of the goal. 118 was ok a little more towards the corner. I prefer to be right on the field not 10' to 15' up. I have spent a large portion of my playing days in goal so it is the view I see all the time not some made for TV view.
I haven't done a photo dump in a while. The two large redevelopments have had residents for a while. Peninsula 88 has been open even longer. A hotel a block north of the stadium is now open. https://wtop.com/business-finance/2021/02/first-hotel-near-audi-field-opens/
It looks like Choice hasn't put out any real photos of the exterior as promotion. I haven't focused on that area in a few weeks.
By this fall, most of us won't recognize the place without the construction zones and open pits. Is the cement factory still there?
Yes, the cement plants are still there. Here are a few photos from today. Likewise, there are still construction zones and open pits. They just happen to be new construction zones and open pits.
