Baros and Moro will compliment each other nicely I think. Moro works extremely hard on the pitch.

I think he will be a much-needed shot in the arm for our offense. I am VERY excited about him coming.

Cisse should be back soon though
maybe a 4-3-3 could be played
i dont think any of them will be content with the bench

Don't be daft, man. Cissé won't be able to play until next season. We need three or four quality strikers, not just two - we had only two at the start of the season and look what happened.

    Hello fellow Reds,

I'm new to the board but thought my first contribution could be this link to an excellent editiorial on the Morientes signing on goal.com

    http://www.goal.com/NewsDetail.aspx?idNews=42349&prog

Needless to say, I'm extremely happy that Morientes has joined. ;)

Calm down will ya? I trust Rafa did not make such silly promise because no club would want to sell their best player.

This is a smart move, actually. It guarantees that no matter how much Chelsea bid on Stevie, Real would have the first right of refusal and reduce the chance of him ending up with a Premiership rival. That is a good thing.

The downside is that it reduces the potential transfer fee since Real won't have to outbid any other club for Gerrard's services, I'd take less money to see him end up outside England if he has to leave Anfield.

Let's be realistic here. As much as I'd love to see Stevie stay at Liverpool, he has been noncommital about his future at Merseyside and he just might have to go elsewhere. If that is the case, I'd rather see him in Madrid than in London. That is the lesser of the ultimate evils.

This is no big deal (Unless it's for a MO price)
It just give them the option IF! Liverpool decide to sell.
Probably better than Chelski or manure.

Possibly, but Smicer already gave up his initial number (The John Barnes Honorary 7) edit note - sorry didn't mean to imply Barnesy was dead with the original post. to Harry Kewell when he came. He has not really had a chance to besmirch his new number yet.

I agree with your post, but if I may nitpick, Barnes wore 10 while Beardsley wore 7 in most, if not all games.

Looking back, and considering the traditional number assignments at Liverpool, it would have made more sense if they were switched, but I think Barnes wore 10 for England and Watford, while Beardsley had worn 7 at Newcastle.

You are right. I had thought he wore 7, but he didn't. It went from King Kenny to Beardsley to Jamie Redknapp (if only for awhile) to Smicer. Or so it appears. To be honest, I have only seen highlights and archived matches from most of the old first division/early premiership years so I was talking off the top of my head.

The Echo is reporting that Liverpool will "let Real know if Gerrard is available" and nothing more. You have to remember that the player has to agree personal terms with any club. Remember Beckham not wanting to go to Barcelona? Stevie is going to decide where he ends up and not Liverpool.

A verbal agreement isn't worth the paper its printed on.

This is nonsense. Verbal Agreement.

Seriously, we go from doubting the fact that Morientes will become a Liverpool player, although most news is saying it's a done deal, to putting a Real jersey on Gerrard at the first hint of interest.

Whether or not Gerrard ends up Real will have little to do with this verbal agreement. In fact, it will probably be based more on what kind of impact Morientes has on our level of play.

I believe it was Sam Goldwin of Metro/Goldwin/Mayer who was reputed to have first said that. You are absolutely right, but don't get your greedy little Chelski hands too excited either. ;)

True...didn't Stevie verbally commit himself to Mourinho in the summer of 2004?

Same here. I woke up yesterday to the radio and the first thing I heard was them talking about Morientes joining Liverpool. Talk about a great way to wake up! :D

Its just another reason to trot out the Goldwin line, since I like it so much. But really, in this day an age of complex financial transactions, a "verbal contract"? Gimme a break. What's next - we shook on it?

I guess the point of the 'contract' was to simply express intent. I could be wrong.

    recycled from another thread:

First of all, Marca is the house organ for Real. Sort of like a print version of the club web site. Second, this is a face saving, self serving leak by Real to assuage (big word means make 'em feel better) the Real supporters who fancy Moro a hell of a lot more than they fancy little Mikie. Third, realize that football journalism is an oxymoron and take EVERYTHING you read in the European press about football with a large grain of sand.

Fernando Morientes completed his medical and signed a three and a half year contract with Liverpool Football Club on Thursday afternoon.
    Liverpool.tv

Let's see how this works out shall we. The lad has a good history but he has to fit the manager and club.

Who can tell me who was the last Liverpool signer to score a hattrick on his debute...???
