- How much do you expect the youth to contribute? - Married to the 3 at the back system? - Any players coming over from Belgium? ([emoji6]yeah right)
A summary would be cool. I'd have liked to have attended, but I have a 1PM almost every day. Pretty much the most popular meeting time as people get back from lunch at my company. I don't know why they couldn't have had this a more friendly time for STMs who actually work for a living.
he made the comment "we lost Arriola" - which might means he knows something already long term or was just referring to him not being here for a little while. followed that with he "hopes he will come back" so it was just a manner of speaking. maybe. he expects a roster of at least 2 players per position married to 3 in back? no, not married - he wants best formation to our team; he will adjust according to roster, doesnt believe in formation, believe in principles, he will adapt to the players he has. How much freedom have you been given to adjust roster to match your play? "The Board and DK knows what types of player I am looking for and we will be working to find more of those" who are you already familiar with? I have been talking to all of them, we have had several meetings already. He knows Brillant, is taking info from all players, about their ambitions, Condensed schedule: we need a bigger squad to handle the compressed schedule, we are looking for more players but quality is more important - "a new player must be better than what we already have" . We dont have too many possibliities righrt now. FLores: sees him as CAM or winger? Both. "I know where he feels most comfortable but I will figure out where he will be best"
Whole event was just about 30 minutes. I was hoping it would go longer. He wants to learn to speak "real American English" Teams he likes in Europe: He really appreciates how Brugge plays. On quality of MLS: he is impressed with speed and intensity; feels MLS is more South American in style over 90 than Europe which often plays slower. will be an adjustment. Red bulls are biggest rivals – how much will we beat them? I don’t care by how much – just as long we do. Fans: how important to on field success? When there is synergy and connection between the team and supporters you are invincible. Its crucial to have fans at home games – it can make the difference between a good or bad season. How do you balance versatility vs player's position preference? players who can play multiple spots is a plus, we have several. I will use them where I need them but hope to be able to play everyone where they are happiest. Coaching inspiration? From same place as inspiration to play – from birth from my father! His dad was watching DCU games last year…. What qualities do you prefer in center back? Power, speed, not afraid to close when wingbacks are too high; leadership, wants to hear the players talking the entire game. First game he remembers attending: Racing – still his team. Loves to watch any live soccer, do his own scouting, visiting academies. What did you think of clubs draft picks? He was watching games of the 3, he thinks they can all make a contribution; question submitted but moderator did not pose to him: have you been contacted by European-based players wanting to play for you in the US?
I figure that with the FIFA transfer windows closed around the world, you're only talking about players from Canadian or American clubs at this point, but I could be wrong, perhaps the lower league in other countries, but IDK.
...or anyone who is currently not with a team, but then they probably won't meet the criteria of being better than what we already have.
Other MLS teams are active, including attempts at securing loans from S. America. I assume we are not since we are DC United.
Pablo Maurer has tweeted that DC are in talks with a young DP in an effort that's being driven primarily by Losada. Early goings yet but D.C. United are in talks with a Young DP (under 23.) Deal would involve a transfer fee. Effort driven primarily by United's incoming head coach, Hernán Losada. Details are scant at the moment. #DCU— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) February 17, 2021
Was just listening to Allocation Disorder and its discussion of the soon to be announced Young DP rule in MLS. Under that rule, a player must be under 22 and can't turn 23 during the season. The MLS club can pay any transfer fee for the player, but the max salary permitted is the max salary budget number (around 600K). The actual charge against the salary cap, however, is about 200K. This arrangement can be continued with that player until he turns 25. Also, each team gets 3 such DP slots (however that may adjust depending upon the number of senior DP players a team has). All of this is very Calvinball, but I think that's what Pablo is tweeting.
If this is a new program that DC United can take advantage of to find a potential impact player while keeping costs down, and Losada has a big say in who's being looked at, it's a very smart move.
