Their annual payroll is some where between a third and half of our clubs total value. It’s not cultural. It’s a whole different game.
PSG has a payroll about five times as high as their closest French competition. European soccer is a farce.
Oil billionaires are so yesterday - As the fight to combat climate change heats up (sorry!) we should prepare for an influx of solar energy billionaires into soccer club ownership - and I don't think they will come from Qatar.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2021/01/14/club-de-foot-montreal I have still to decide whether I like this change or not, but I am more inclined on the yes. The snowflake looks a little bit like the symbol of a skiing school somewhere on the Italian mountains, but at least the lily of the previous crest has been reduced to a small size (I realize the lily is on the Quebec flag). Regarding the name, I usually abhor any team ridenomination in "FC", "City" or "United", of which unfortunately we had way too many in recent years and lost some really beautiful and characteristic names (like Carolina Railhawks), however AT LEAST "Club de foot" sounds a little different, and I alway found the name "Impact" a little dull. So in this case I am OK with the change (almost)
RE: the new Montreal name: The team eventually will be nicknamed "The Clubfoots," which has unfortunate connotations.
I have a cousin who was born with a clubfoot. It was later almost totally corrected by surgery, but the physical and emotional suffering was real, as she was mocked while growing up.
Looks like we keep Arriola. Selfishly glad. *looks like the deadline is 6pm, not am so we're not out of the woods yet.
I've never been that impressed with Jordan Morris's game. He is a very limited player - run fast, one foot, etc. Arriola brings more variety to the game and I would always rather have someone like him over Jordan.
An hour ago Goff tweets that the likelihood of Arriola going on a loan is "fairly strong." It would be a loan without an option to buy, apparently.
I think Morris has evolved beyond that, for instance he is no longer a one footed player. After he missed a season with injury, a la Arriola, he came back better than ever with his speed undiminished. 7 and 8 assists the last two seasons as opposed to a couple the previous ones showed he has taken off the blinders and is a more complete player. They are different players, ideally you want both. Good for Swansea.
I'm so F8cking tired of this reasonable analysis! I start going thru over reaction withdrawal every time I read a post like it. Please consider your impact on people before posting this kind of diatribe.... ;-)
