As a Nevisian, it irks the hell out of me to hear announcers consistently pronounce it as NEHV-US, rather than KNEE-VIS. The latter is correct. The former is not. Ok, go back to ignoring me now.
I know a few kids who were recruited hard by him and one who ended up signing. As far as I know, things were on the up and up. It's the less secure coaches that often get caught up in that sort of stuff. And it is actually way more common in basketball than football.
Tennessee actually having the money in McDonald's bags was refreshing and old school. Nowadays it's more about the local big church providing donations.
Officials changed their minds on stoppage. Disappointing result. No multi comb US wins against Trinidad & Tobago 7-0
Damn Gregg Berhalter has now capped *70* players in his little more than 2 years in charge of the #USMNT and given 40 - FORTY! - players their first cap. #USAvTRI— Brooke Tunstall (@YesThatBrooke) February 1, 2021
Akinola hasn't filed for a one-time switch, so he can't play for Canada yet. For now, he's just training with their national team. That was the situation for Perea in the last camp: he was training with the USMNT but was ineligible to play because he had not yet made the switch. In both cases (Akinola now and Perea in the last USMNT camp), a national team that the player could switch to was inviting him to camp in what amounted to a recruiting effort. If Akinola files the one-time switch, he is instantly cap-tied to Canada even without playing. By the way, being in a match day squad appears not to count even in competitive matches. I think I remember a few players in the last several years who have been an unused sub in a competitive match and gone on to play for another country.
Did we learn anything from this game? Vines looks promising, so does Milles. I was disappointed with Deke and Perea.
I dont think we learned much from this game and I know it was a last minute substitution and I thank them for coming. Turner didnt have to do anything but Im glad he blocked that PK. Second time Ive seen him do that recently. I know this is not going to be popular but I was not that impressed with Dike. Large body, a bit slow and more than anything, looks like a replacement tor Jozy... in all ways. I honestly saw nothing that made me think he belonged on this team and if you add in the Euro players... cant see him on the SR. roster
I heard there was originally a Caribbean-centric additional verse to "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" when the Gershwins wrote it: "You're from NEHV-US, and I'm from KNEE-VIS. I like ANG-GWI-LA and you like AN-GEE-LA ANG-GWI-LA, AN-GEE-LA, NEHV-US, KNEE-VIS Let's call the whole thing off."
right - how much can Gregg really judge from the crop of defenders and keepers he brought it with a match like this?
Every time they do that, if I was Gregg, I would be on them. I'm screaming at the TV when I see a midfielder one touch a ball back to the defense that pops up to the defender's eyeballs. That's such BS. Tough for the defender to corral, puts us under pressure immediately and slows down the ball movement. It is just chicken $hit 9u soccer. By the way, I haven't seen Dike before last night. The guy about twice the size of Atidore, but unfortunately looked last night like he has the touch of El Burro. He just did not look sharp at all. I hope for his sake he is an awful lot better than that when in form, otherwise I wouldn't be sad if he chose to rep the same country his brother and sister did.
Something tells me Dike was having an attitude thing. Berhalter made a point pre game of praising Lewis (?) for getting the start for 'what he did in practice'. Almost as if he was sending the message loud to someone else who expected to start but didn't because of effort. Probably not but it's the first thing I thought pregame when I heard that.
Berhalter praises Lewis in a press conference and that leads you to believe that Dike has an attitude problem? Can’t say I follow your logic there.
