That's how I saw it. He took it early when the ball was higher than he would've liked because it was getting too close to him. It was a difficult chance.

It's not the missed goal. It's the running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Sarge's had some good games where he got nothing on the stats. This just wasn't one of them.

Just following up! Did not mis-see that volley. That was not an easy volley. It came to him high and was heading towards him, i.e, he could not wait until the ball got lower So, he was jammed. The other option would have been to try and control it then shoot, he might have been able to but defenders were close.

but yeah, it didn’t feel like one of his better overall outings. 4 to 5 Kicker rating probably.

Exactly. Neither of those chances were good (the other being his one time shot), but that didn't make his outing good. Par for the course on having basically zero chances, but he usually involves himself in other ways (good hold up play, usually a couple yellows drawn/dangerous set pieces won), which he didn't on Saturday.

Möhwald's goal was set up with a pass like you describe.
I only watched Leipzig - Leverkusen from the corner of my eye but I (and the commentator) thought the level of play was underwhelming. Lots of pressing and high speed led to many passing errors and 1-on-1 skirmishes in midfield.
Bremen's second half performance with 15 shots on goal was above what Leipzig or Leverkusen showed in my opinion. It's just too bad they didn't play the whole game like that.

Sarge with a 4.5 Kicker rating against Schalke (1.0 best, 6.0 worst).

Seems Sarge won the battle os the US forwards in Kicker’s eyes since Hoppe got a 5.5. Obviously not a stellar performance for either guy.

Doesn’t seem to be a game day thread. Sarge stays on after some subs in the 70th minute. Osako on as his partner up top. No breakthroughs, just some more missed chances (a chip just wide, great touch to settle it and a one touch chance off a cross hit wide). I feel for the kid!

still 20 minutes to go, hope Sarge can hit something.

Sargent just ended the game more or less with a nice direct assist to Agu for 2-0.

I wasn’t sure either. But Chong is gone, so that is a bit more room, maybe? Seems like Sarge’s competition is Osako, Füllkrug and Selke (not necessarily in that order).

That was a nice run and smart look across goal instead of trying to force his own shot as the angle kept shrinking. The goalie was sure he was going to take his shot. Goal scoring is what everyone wants but that requires some service. Seems what the redhead can control he's doing well at.

Exactly. When you watch him play full games that’s what comes across.

I look at Sargents involvements way too closely, but it also seemed like a pretty decent first touch. Pass was relatively hot, and he controlled nicely with his left, putting it into a good spot for the cross.

Yes, probably giving too much credit, but I just listened to the scuffed podcast guys speculate that Jesus ferriera might be our starting 9 based off a performance against t&ts c team, so cut me some slack!

Great take from the pass which was slightly behind him. The way he pinged that ball in it’s as if he played a shot using the scorer as a backboard to bounce off and into the goal. Like a bank shit in pool or a kiss off the glass in hoops. Well
    Done kid.
