So, with the new US requirements for testing and quarantine for all people arriving internationally, will the teams and internationally-located US players arriving have to get special exemptions from quarantine like the US did when traveling to play the Netherlands? (Obviously, the testing would have happened in any case.) While I would think so because FIFA release dates don't allow for a full quarantine and the tournament, I haven't actually seen an answer to that question, and I guess since it's a new requirement, no one really knows yet. (It's also still unclear to me how the US will enforce a mandatory quarantine, but that's a whole different kettle of fish.)

Unrelated: facing up against Pia and Brazil in the same game? Is there a stronger word than rivalry? :devilish: (Please, God, no injuries...)

How many players can the U.S. have available for the She Believes games? Can the roster be changed from game to game? Thanks for answers.

If it's the same as in the past, it's a final roster of 23...no changes once the tournament starts.

Understandable, but sad for us, too. Hopefully, it's not too late to pull in one of the teams that planned to go to one of the other February tournaments that has been cancelled. Or, I guess another team that wasn't going to one of the friendly tournaments.

Looks like the replacement team may be Argentina:

I'm happy to keep the tournament at 4 teams, and completely understandable for Japan WNT not to want to travel to the US these days, but with no offense to Argentina, playing Argentina is a pretty big step down from Japan.

Mexico would have been a more competitive option than Argentina.

I disagree if Argentina are near the form they were in at WWC 2019. But honestly, I have no idea when they last played a game or how often some of the players are getting to play/train.

Argentina did not have a match in 2020.
I was going off the last couple games they played in 2019 against Colombia; I believe there were 2 ties. Of course, Colombia had a different lineup than what we saw earlier this month.
After considering my high expectations for Mexico's development, only to be let down every year, you're probably right.

The right thing to do considering Japan takes Covid way more serious than the US does. I live in the Deep South where prejudice still abounds & everything still open out here(most probably cause Covid effects the minority population much harder than the whites)

But would of liked to see more what’s going on with Japan & Asian soccer; the AFC just voted Ellie Carpenter ‘Asian player of the year’. She looked pretty bad in that Lyon loss to PSG a few months ago. So the AFC’s choice of the 20 year old Ellie makes it feel like there’s no new emerging players coming out of Asia

Tobin Heath sustained a foot injury in mid-January and is currently in a walking boot. Her participation in SBC is questionable.

    Three things might prevent that:
1 - Canada or the US or both might just be unable to score in a game and then we or they fall asleep, just briefly, and give up a goal or two.
2 - Brazil could have one of "those" games. They have done it before and there is plenty of talent to do it again.
3 - The whole tournament could get canceled. If the Olympics gets canceled then the SBC needs to go as well. There is no point to this tournament if there is no Olympics and there is no reason to put people in harm's way if there is nothing to be gained from it.

Reading some news releases stating 10 to 12 weeks, it would be highly unlikely.

Just saw one saying that it's an ankle injury and Tobin's out for 3 months.

I'm with F of F, if Japan were to cancel the Olympics before SBC takes place, we should cancel it. I don't know what kind of quarantines/bubbles are in place, but the covid situation in Brazil is just as bad as it is here.

Very sad news for Tobin Heath. If the Olympics are held in Japan--I'm highly skeptical--Heath will be in a difficult position to try to get a spot on the U.S. team. She'd be facing lots of competition for a spot even if 100%.

And then there's this. Heath will be 33 years old on May 29th. If there's no Olympics, or if there is but Heath can't make the team due to injury, the next big opportunity would be the World Cup in 2023. Heath would be 35.

It is hard to know what direction Vlatko will take with regards to the kind of team he wants to put on the field for the 2023 WC.

Hearing as well that Sam Mewis injured her ankle, will miss at least Man City’s next game.

right now Heath being dished by English fans as she’s reported coming back home for her injury after complaining about the medical treatment in the UK

Argentina is nothing to write about; they lost to the then NCAA #170 ranked UNLV Running Rebs right before the 2019 WC & after that went on strike(due to poor woso conditions in their country)

If Formiga is still making rosters at 42 years young, I don't know how anyone can complain about Lloyd making rosters. LOL!

Since we're still in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, sounds strange that Bia Zaneratto comes from Wuhan. Of course it has no special meaning by now (and it's not even certain that the spread actually started from Wuhan, although for sure if was known as the first of the early hotbeds), but hearing the name of this town anyway leaves an impression, after all that happened in this year... :coffee:
