I'm still disappointed it didn't work with JL. I think he would have been a good fit if we had transitioned some of veterans out and been more open to a system approach. I love Zidane and I'm happy he's back, but in some ways it would have been better if he had come back later into a system and squad that was ready to take it the next level rather than one practically built on nostalgia aiming to play a few testimonial matches.

 

Varane really could have been benched a few times in recent years for being in incredibly poor form though, I'm just not convinced he's focused on football at times, seems like something is taking his focus elsewhere.

 

On martin, I do have a feeling that his injuries added to Zidane's mistrust in him. Lets see if he can stay healthy in the EPL.

 

That's true but the big picture is just last season he played a big part in one of the best defensive performances this club has had in years on the way to winning the league, sooo, there's that, unless we want to take his contribution out just to prove a point.

 

my point is he's had stretches of bad form since the last WC and arguably we could have taken a number of those moments as an opportunity to let someone else partner Ramos. For me Varane isn't progressing as a player, in some ways he has actually regressed and it would foolish for the club to not consider Varane's leadership issues as we start to think about life after Ramos.

 

Not him alone but as we are talking about Rafa, I did start by saying that's true,

 

I've brought this up several times, completely perplexing stuff... Really hard to understand what is going into the planning.

 

This is probably it for him, unless Zidane leaves in the summer.

I don’t even count him as a player that can contribute. Leaves us with 4 mids for 3 positions.
