Hoppe doing absolute bits right now for Schalke. Very exciting to see a young, quality young CF potentially coming to the fore (in terms of the USMNT). So, Odegaard. Any takers on here? Especially if Pogba were to leave. Hes an insanely gifted baller. At times last year, he was immense. He just needs more time to develop a bit further.
This is funny but in all other non professional teams i coach, that rule applies. Just didnt know the same was true of the top level. In youth soccer here, especially HS, if a defender plays, deflects, tips a ball (intentionally trying to make a play)... as long as he touches it, the striker is back onside, even though he was clearly off when the ball was played. We literally use this intentionally with our pacy forwards, as much as you can try.
Martin Ødegaard is ‘tempted’ by Arsenal loan bid, he’s gonna decide together with his family.Real Sociedad are in advanced talks to sign him by one week [leading the race over Ajax], always been Martin’s priority by months. #AFC offer led him to take hours/days of reflection.— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 21, 2021
Its complicated. I would think it should just be "when the ball is played". But at the same time I do think its fair that if the defender miscontrols the ball or ********s up the clearance, he should be punished (not directly by the rules) for his mistakes. Defenders already get away with so much cheating. The play in the Villa v City game, thats just a terrible call. I think the next phase of play should be after the defenders first dribble or pass. So if Mings chested it then passed it square, fair game for the formerly offside attacker.
Yeah, IMO if you’re interfering with the first action then you’re offside. You can’t say Mings has got the ball under control and is in the next phase of play when the ball only touches the ground the instant Rodri sticks his foot in. So much of football is utterly ********ed by an absolute insistence on writing rules that can so easily be interpreted like this. Rules are meant to be created with some sort of intention behind them - e.g. don’t use your arms unfairly to block shots or to control the ball - but they’re written in the most ********ing risible way (‘imagine if the player is wearing a t-shirt with really short sleeves, or what would they look like if standing in front of a really bright light or the sunset or something’).
Bayern have officially thrown their hat in the Upamecano sweepstakes. Knowing how decisive they tend to be in the pursuit of their targets, United may have to look elsewhere for a CB this summer. On top of Aguero still sidelined (he's just contracted Covid apparently), this is not good news for City as they are in the midst of a good run currently. Kevin De Bruyne has suffered a small hamstring tear and will be out of action for 2-3 weeks. 🤕 pic.twitter.com/BYJB7o57VK— Football Tweet ⚽ (@Football__Tweet) January 21, 2021

Super job from Burnley: doing what couldn't be done in over 3yrs. Huge, huge victory for them!!!! (and for the title race as well)...
Liverpool's front line is done being top level. They aren't old, but they aren't young anymore either. They don't have the legs they use to. Not to play in this system. They should all leave. They will do great else where imo. But not as a unit, not at Liverpool.
Liverpool could be 6th once Everton and Spurs play their games in hand (ignoring that Spurs play Liverpool next).
Pool board raving about how they shouldve gotten a PK and that VAR screwed them. But not a single mention about how VAR bailed them out at half when Fabinho shouldve seen red. Love it.
