I keep coming here to check for information on what happened at West Point. No one has any insight? That change shocked me.

It wasnt just Alvarado, TCU's back line is stellar (especially outside backs). Saying they should contend in big 12 isn't a stretch.

A.Kelly's last recruiting class is off the charts. Hard to fathom how she would be in a hot seat discussion after assembling that level of talent. No one whose been paying attention will be surprised if they start making noise this spring.

she is mentioned as on the hot seat because for years she has underperformed at Texas that is why. Her body of work demonstrates someone who has not done a good job.

Recruiting quality players doesn’t seem to be an issue for her as they’ve been bringing in quality players for years now. Considering she is at one of the top universities and is one of the highest paid coaches, people would expect her to be doing much better

I understand why one would say this, but I wonder. If we look at Texas’ rankings since 2007 (five years before Kelly arrived), its rankings over time have had some ups and downs but overall have been quite stable, maybe with a very, very slight improvement over time.

This suggests to me that perhaps there is something about Texas’ situation that keeps it in a steady state. I have a theory that some teams are that way -- they have a natural resting position from which they sometimes can do better and sometimes do worse but to which they eventually return. My theory is that a team’s natural resting position can change but that ordinarily it would be due to bringing in someone who is or will turn out to be a coaching great or a coaching disaster.

Why Texas would have a natural resting position right about where it is, is not obvious to me.

This, however, is just a theory. And, even if it is a valid theory for some teams, it might not be for Texas.

It's not a stretch to say TCU can contend yearly, but they haven't done so yet. That's what I meant in saying they have to prove it - is this a year that foretells future seasons, or just one when the breaks went TCU's way? Can they have the same kind of success in a normal season?

I also didn't say Angela Kelly is on a hot seat, just that some Texas fans think she should be. But recruiting has never been her problem; her problem is that it's not translating into trophies or postseason victories.

The only information I have heard as of today is that it was due to recruiting violations.

Not sure if that is true or not. However, as a college coach and not being allowed to go out and recruit due to the extended dead period could eventually cause issues. I would not be surprised if some coaches in Div 1 try to fit in with the other NCAA Div 2 and 3 and NAIA coaches on the sidelines of these tournaments. Just need to bundle up and having to wear masks at the events. Who would know you are there? And if another coach were to try to turn you in because they saw you there, wouldn't that implicate that coach as well. I would guess there are some coaches who are illegally out there right now!!! Not saying the Army coach did that. It just made me think of the recruiting situation right now.

I see we are still in the rhetoric mode of the last four years.

“ I’m not saying Ted Cruz had sex with goats, but with everyone wearing a mask, he’d blend right in with all those people in the goat dairy association”

do you have evidence this has actually happened?( the coaches, not Ted) Please give specific tournaments. Other than your own rich imagination, I mean.

Clive, the post starts by saying "Not sure if that is true or not" this was a response to the post that said "The only information I have heard as of today is that it was due to recruiting violations." Then my post said "Not saying the Army coach did that. It just made me think of the recruiting situation right now." My post was based on a scenario that could happen due to the situation with the really long what will be a year dead period when it is done. I will say if you think there is "No cheating the system, then you may be misguided" Cheating happens all the time in Soccer recruiting. It is just kept under wraps by many not wanting to turn fellow coaching friends in and creating bad will. As well as not wanting anyone to catch them as well. Not saying it is all coaches that cheat. Just that as I said " I could see where the dead period and the circumstances could create an opportunity to cheat. Again, this has nothing to do with the Army coach!!! This is just a scenario that could happen!!!! And your comparison to having sex with goats with your mask on is so way out of line. WOW!!! I guess you put me in my place.... Thank you so much. My last thought on this is...SOME COACHES IN SOCCER DO CHEAT IN RECRUITING!!!!!!

on Army, the only thing I heard are rumors and don't know if they are true... But apparently he made political post on social media that led to him being dismissed. Like I said, I just heard rumors.

This would not surprise me as I cringed at a couple of his posts (which were political). Notably he appears to have deleted his twitter account and started a new one. He also made his Instagram private.

Did he make anti Trump posts or pro Trump? In other words were his political posts critical of the administration at the time or in support?

The couple posts that I saw (which were within the past few months) implied that he supported Trump. He did not say much in the caption, but the photo spoke a thousand words. He dressed up as Trump for Halloween. Full disclosure - I cannot stand Trump. But, the reason I cringed was because of the timing and his position at Army. He leads a racially diverse group of women. Trump is widely known to be racist and sexist. He also posted them shortly after Trump was accused of ignoring official intelligence that Russia secretly offered bounties to kill U.S. Troops. I was dumbfounded that the coach could be so insensitive to those that he leads.

I know a handful of staff members at West Point, Annapolis and ft Collins (afa) and they were all emphatically anti trump. When I asked one of them he said essentially the higher up you go in education/ranking/hierarchy the less support you find for trump. There was actually a class taught at one of those locations using Trump as a case study In how not to lead.

please don’t take this that all military hated trump or that every high ranking officer hated him. I’m not saying that. I’m relaying what I was told by a naval officer when I asked him why my friends at different military academies all weren’t fans. It’s a small sample size. Just interesting is all.

I would expect the military to refrain from posting their political views. I wonder if that was a West Point policy he violated. I have no idea if such policy exists. But, true confession here ... when I saw he was terminated - having already cringed at his social media posts ... my first thought was, 'was he caught inside the capital on January 6th'? His social media led me down that path.
