Nantes is in the danger zone. Plus they just hired Raymond Domenech who hasn't coached for 10 years after getting canned post 2010 world cup after the whole team quit on him. But he has gotten them out of the bottom with two ties in his first 2 games. https://www.france24.com/en/live-ne...ach-domenech-gets-a-clown-s-welcome-at-nantes
If the Rapids can get a legitimate $5M offer for Bassett they should consider selling (not a $3M plus $2M in incentives, or $4M plus a friendly, or whatever, $5M cash in hand). Though the comments from @pdid10 makes me think it might be better for Cole and the Rapids to not have him go to Nantes...
Given the Rapids' propensity to push forward, and that the center mids like Price are not exactly great defenders, it would work to get a rangy guy CB who could tackle. Like a Marvell Wynne before he got ball watchy, or an Olave before he got old and crispy. They need someone who can cover a lot of ground defending counterattacks.
From Cole's perspective, would playing at Nantes help his development? Would it give him a shot at the 'A' national team? How much better is Ligue Un than the MLS? My gut reaction is he and the Rapids should pass on Nantes.
Don't look now, but Rapidman has made a best XI: This is a work of art from @andrew_wiebe https://t.co/df6ScL0nfS— Jason Le Miere (@JasonLeMiere) January 15, 2021
Interesting comparison. Rubio and Kamara both arrived in 2019. Kamara scored 17 goals for the Rapids, Rubio has scored 14. But if you took all of Kamara's goals away, the result of 7 games would be changed. If you took all of Rubio's goal away the result of 6 games would be changed. So how much of our opinion of Kamara vs. Rubio is driven by the total number of goals and not by when they were scored and how critical they were?
Agree. And it appears that we'll be counting on Rubio to score a lot of goals at critical times this season as it looks like he's going to be the #9.
When an MLS side sells a player how much does the team get and how much does MLS get? Also, does the selling team get first shot at the player if they someday want to return to MLS, or compensation if they sign with another MLS side? The Rapids are entering a period of time where they will most likely be selling several home grown players to European clubs and I am curious about how the finances will work for them.
MLS takes no cut if the team sells a homegrown (like Bassett, Vines, and Acosta who was a homegrown in Dallas). There are no first dibs if they return to the league. If they're sold for $500K or more they go on the allocation order list.
Which is interesting, given that Robin Fraser likes to play him more as a false #9, who drops back into possession quite a bit. I have a feeling we will have a scoring committee again this year - which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Means other teams have to watch out for more than just one striker. Whenever Kamara was on the field, the Rapids attack seemed to fall into a "boot it up the field and hope he gets it!" or a "get it wide, and then cross to the box!" groove - which got predictable. I'm not knocking Kamara as a player - the dude is a proven, talented goal scorer. Plus, I've not seen many people that can hang in the air as long as he can. Rather, I'm taking a knock at the team dynamic as a whole, as our attack got a lot less dynamic and a lot more predictable. With Rubio on the field, there's a lot more questions to ask if you're trying to defend against us. Is Rubio going to be the guy taking the shot? Or is it Bassett on a deep lying run? Or maybe it's going to be Namli skating past 3 players and getting it to the top of the box for Acosta? We know Vines is going to push up wide, but will Lewis/Barrios be overlapping with him or cutting inside to the space that Rubio is dropping out of? Quite frankly, I much rather prefer our attack with Rubio than with Kamara. While his numbers aren't what you'd expect from your #9, his work rate, space covered, and passing isn't what you'd expect from a #9 either.

MLS Superdraft is the 21st (Thursday) Mock Draft: https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/col..._aid48890?mc_cid=4d5f82df22&mc_eid=04345bc741 This is my guess for one of the Rapids 1st round picks: Joshua Drack Denver D (LB) 5-7 150
We need a consistent CB. One is supposedly hitting the market..... rumors are starting to circulate that NYRB may be looking to offload Tim Parker. NYRB just signed former Inter Miami loanee Andres Reyes from Atletico Nacional on a permanent deal. Houston is supposedly interested in Parker. I don't know what you would give up to get him ..... a couple of high draft picks?
Colorado Rapids First-round pick: Nos. 6 & 21 Top Draft Need: Center forward Secondary Need: Left back depth I do think there's a chance that Colorado could look for a starting No. 9 with that sixth pick, which they acquired from Chicago in exchange for $125k in allocation cash. You don't trade that kind of money for a pick unless you've got something in mind, and looking at Colorado's roster, there are only two real areas of concern. They're listed above in order of priority. It's worth noting that the 21st pick is Dallas's natural selection, which the Rapids acquired, along with winger Michael Barrios, in exchange for the 15th pick. Good bit of business no matter who they select here. Interesting 2019 Draft Analysis: Of the 77 players selected: 28 - Made an MLS roster (same as 2019) 6 - Appeared in 1+ MLS games (down 16) 5 - Appeared in 10+ MLS games (down 3) 3 - Appeared in 20+ MLS games (same as 2019) 18 - Currently on an MLS roster (down 6) 8 - Loaned to a USL Championship club (down 9) 31 - Signed by a USL Championship club (up 1) https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2021...retrospective-checking-state-2020-draft-class https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2021...st-cheat-sheet-team-needs-2021-mls-superdraft
I can confirm #Rapids96 moved up to 6th in the #MLSSuperDraft with the intention of nominating a player for Generation Adidas. With Ethan Bartlow (UW) and Bret Halsey (UVA) added as GAs, they have a shot at 1 of the 5. My guess is they draft Hasley or a graduating senior No. 9.— Matt Pollard (@LWOSMattPollard) January 20, 2021
