I think you're right. Can't really understand why else he would do that.

I still think France are way ahead of England in player development and depth. They have a bigger pool of capable world class players than Brazil.

Coady's currently playing himself out of contention.

I think Coady has a very good chance as Southgate seems to really like his character which he seems to value a lot. He put him in that England leadership group already.

Unfortunately he's also a very limited defender. He can just about get away with it in a back 3 with two defensive midfielders in front of him but remove some of that protection and he's a liability.

While we mention the quality of players coming through. Supporters of other nations are claiming we are playing the system with regards duel nationals. Fancy us picking players born in this country? Shocking

Who this time? Not the Yanks abroad thread again? Or is it YBIG or the Welsh Apostle site or the Nigerians? No matter who it is, we will always be big bad England stealing our own players or hogging our own players to create a bigger talent pool. You just have to get used to it, people will always look to complain about us.

I don't know that you can really complain when you seem to go searching for this stuff.

Stones fullfilling his potential could be huge for England. He seems more confident and harder to bully than before and seems to have formed a great partnership with Dias.

Are Welsh fans aware of the irony here?
I make it 12 of their last squad that weren't born there.

7 each for Scotland and Ireland.

This is the only part that leaves a question mark in my mind. Would he look as assured alongside Maguire and Dier/Walker? Only one way to find out though.

There’s no hope for many Welsh fans, I once had a argument/discussion with several ( actually turned into a lot ) who insisted that English born and raised players who played grassroots football, schooled, educated etc, etc and then picked up by English Clubs are developed by the Welsh FA and nothing to do with England. It was quite amazing and I was pretty speechless, lol

They're deluded. They believe that any English born player eligible for them should choose wales as they develop them

Does it matter? Leave them to it. They're only going to get the players who want to play for them.

Stones looks great. The best news of the year would be if Southgate switched back to 4-3-3 as both Maguire and Stones are looking good ATM, but I doubt it will happen. So much depth and I agree re Madison but unfortunately I don't see where he fits in this system, yet alone grealish

Probably not, to be honest. Seems like the sort of player that needs stability by playing with the same partner every week, and one who's solid himself.

This type of comment from the welsh is why they piss me off so much

'think having that many talented players in their pool could harm them in the long-run. Some of them will consider their place in the national team to be a "right" and not take too kindly to being dropped for whoever the new flavour of the month is. Imagine being Alli or Maddison when fans and the media were screaming for Grealish to get called up?

Added to that, there's very little balance in midfield. Besides Henderson or Rice, who's dropping back to defend? Almost all of their talented players right now are attack-minded, and as you point out, their centre backs & keeper are shite.

Best advice to give players on the up like Eze is to pick Nigeria, they could really smash it given how many talented lads are qualified for them right now.'

A Welshman saying our Centre backs and keeper are shite is rather amusing considering who they have to pick from I must say.

I actually don’t think our centre back options are that bad, sure we could improve but if they are organised then I don’t see a problem with the players we have that they could do a good job for us. I think we’re in a better position than a few years ago that’s for sure.
