While it might be a sideshow, I think we should recognize that, as bad as it's been, that sideshow could easily get a whole lot worse, more destructive. There were explosives and weapons found at yesterday's event. In retrospect, it's a major miracle that more people weren't killed (and not necessarily by law enforcement).

How many "McVeighs" are there in these groups? Anarchists with military training, and the desire to just destroy the whole country in their twisted pursuit of liberty? What if the PT Cruiser warriors in Michigan had actually kidnapped the governor? How close are we to a political assassination?

There are sideshows, and then there are those that kill a president, or blow up a federal building. We really can't be very far from the latter version.

Anyone know if Trump can be charged with anything in relation to yesterday's events after January 20?

But what was their purpose? Sure, a mob invaded the Capitol, but were they doing it so they could post on social media? Some, sure, but many were far more serious, and many are down the Q rabbit hole and that is a dangerous place to accept so passively. They are calling themselves patriots, but they were insurgents/insurrectionists. They many not have been formally organized, but that is a difficult thing to do when their leader operates on chaos. So while I think they were foolish, in the short term, this is something which has been slowly building since at least 1994, if not since 1979/1980, and ratcheted up exponentially since 2016.

To call it anything other than an insurrection and/or an attempted coup d'état is far too accepting of the violent nature of the breach yesterday.

So, hang on... is that real? They had, effectively, an insurrection viewing party, (although I doubt they would call it that).

So he gees up a bunch of idiots, racists, fascists, drunks and losers and then returns retires to his bunker/tent to 'watch the results come in'?

I must admit, I'm having a hard time believing what's going on over there atm.

I thought our lot were bad enough but this is some next level shit :(

This has been stated here about 18,429,437 times, but unbe********inglievably, I guess it needs to be said yet again.

The folks guarding the Capitol were U.S. Capitol Police.

The folks in your video are Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia -- the city's police force.

MPDC and the U.S. Capitol Police are two separate police departments with different geographical jurisdictions. They have a bit of an overlap, but that overlap does not include the Capitol or the Capitol grounds. MPDC requires an invitation to provide enforcement assisstance on and around the Capitol, which they did not have yesterday at the time the Trumpanzees breached. MPDC were not involved in yesterday's breach of the Capitol. The U.S. Capitol Police were not the personnel in your video.

This. Yesterday may have been put on by a bunch of clowns, but it doesn't negate what the meaning of the beach was.

But let us also consider another aspect of the race involved. Would be so glib in saying it was a bunch of clowns had this been a Latino or Black or Native American group who did this? I doubt it. We certainly would have been quite supportive, but no matter what happened, we would not be so easily, if at all, be calling them clowns even if they were being clownish. We would definitely find some meaning in their actions. So we should do the same to the insurrectionists.

Sure and they had that invitation when last years protests were going on.

Sure, there is a difference of a 1 day protest vs continuous multi day protest, that is why I have said that if the Trumpers were to continue with this shit, then they will eventually get the same police response that other protestors got, we started to see that last night as capitol police got reinforcements from other police departments.

Mayor Bowser and Chief Contee made it abundantly clear again in the press conference this am. DC AG Racine as well. DC MP may need to do a post mortem but that mess yesterday was solely on the US Capitol Police.
They only reached out to DC MP for help after 1 PM. I can't even comprehend that failure.

Last time an attack happened in congress the 4 Latinos were taken into custody, alive. back in 1954.

According to wiki, 5 representatives were wounded that time.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_United_States_Capitol_shooting

Obviously subduing 4 shooters is much easier than subduing a few hundred assholes.

The following day the police were raiding houses in Puerto Rico, hopefully the FBI is on their way to raid houses of the fvckers from yesterday (but I won't hold my bread waiting for it).

At best, the US Capitol Police needs to resign or be fired.
