CP is better on the left than the right wing. The point I was trying to make is he needs to be the attacking man in the middle of the field. Chelsea's problem is they have some very good attacking players but no one is attacking from the middle and pushing the attack. They slow the ball down and let the defense set up thus taking away the advantage Chelsea has. Once Chelsea gets control of the ball they need to get it to CP fast in the middle ....attack with speed before the defense gets back. Chelsea gets the ball and just continues to slow play (control the clock) by passing it among the back line and giving it to guys in the middle who are no threat.
The COVID situation in the UK is worsening rapidly. Would not be surprising in the least to see another shutdown. You'd have to think FL gets a bit of a reprieve in that case. It'd be too easy to say you can't fairly judge the team's performance based on everything else that's going on.
I kept thinking during the game - what if Chelsea had a playmaker like DeBruyne? And then I remembered that they did!
They are all competing under the same conditions, with the exception of Frank having had access to a couple hundred million in transfer funds when nearly everyone else was rolling pennies to make payroll.
These ratings are not useful. They are in many ways quite arbitrary. The sooner people stop caring about them as if they actually map to overall performance, the better. It's because the personnel problems provide issues... the manager needs to try to keep getting Werner, Ziyech, and even Havertz firing, it's in his and Chelsea's interest to do that long-term, which impacts the short-term directly. It's a difficult problem to have, there are many factors to this. It would take a horrible skid for Lampard to lose his job I think. I would not be surprised to see a few tactical tweaks and them to win a couple in a row, and then they're near the halfway point. At that point in the hunt for top 4, can't see them firing him. If he loses the next 2 matches, or if Chelsea get word that a name like Allegri is really interested, perhaps that might make them pull the trigger. As much as Frank has not been great that would be very harsh to me, but that is the name of the game. The managerial round table is many things, but "fair" isn't exactly near the top of the list.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/chelsea...ent-with-lampard-despite-poor-results-sources can't disagree with the sentiment ... needs time ... difficult conditions ... new players ... COVID ... no obvious great replacement readily available ... having said that - Lampard needs to get them organized and spaced properly and moving the ball around quickly ... the players need to reward each other when making the runs ..... I really don't think it matters if CP is on the right or the left if they are not moving the ball and spaced out and working the middle and the wings. Lampard could use some time studying game film and thinking it through.
On the other hand, these guys get paid millions to play soccer and they are bunching up at times like U10 players? Something doesn’t add up, honestly. There are some things that professional soccer players should know from experience.
Wasn't in the cards, but he only signed a short contract there. Both of them, PSG & Poch, are in a marriage of convenience right now. They are both looking for the bigger better deal, the timing just isn't there currently. But they could both go their separate ways as quickly as 16 months from now.
Always suspected poch was waiting patiently for the Manchester United job. Suspect they might go for nagelsmann though.
This!! How in the hell do you have a situation where Kante is at midfield and the only CFC player within ten yards of the halfway line? Then knowing that, how does he try a shot or a pass there? You have to go back to the keeper and get wide and deep or you punt it out of touch for a GK. I just can't work out how that even happens.
coaching .... just take some footage from Man City, Liverpool, Juventus, Barca, Bayern or ...... they all seem to have good discipline and spacing in the attack and defense (midfield and strikers) .... if they are told to flood forward and attack .... but are not trained/coached in spacing and so forth ... then a mess can result. Was nice today to watch the Pool left side nicely release to Firmino and Mane when they took off ready to receive a wing through ball .... the match against City I saw three or four times CP took off only for Chillwell to pull the ball back and send it the other direction ... spacing and rewarding the runs is so important ... Lampard needs to get it fixed ... if Berhalter understands it (and he is from the lowly MLS) then certainly Lampard (sarcasm implied) should ...
Dear Frank, We at Big Soccer Boards have devised many possible solutions to your problems, listed below. First, you’re welcome. Second, just pick and choose the ones you like and things will turn around. On that you have our anonymous message board poster guarantee. 1. Sit the Germans for a while. They seem sad. 2. Hire a big-brained, older assistant who isn’t afraid to say “WTF” when you announce your lineups/formations. 3. 4-4-2 4. 4-2-3-1 5. 4-5-3 (maybe no one will notice) 6. When an evil scientist approaches you proposing to clone Mount so you put him at every position, say no. 7. Buy a new midfield so that your speedy forwards won’t stop making the runs that your current midfielders almost always miss. 8. Tell your midfielders that they aren’t forwards. On crosses, the Chelsea players in the 6 yard box are crammed in there like a New Years Eve revelers in Times Square (in the before-times). 9. Lock Chilwell and Pulisic in a room together until they figure out how to make complementary runs forward. But first, remind Chilwell which of the two of them is responsible for him getting to play in the CL this year. 10. Fine Werner and Ziyech 5% of their salaries every time they don’t get to the far post on a cross. Or just use players who will (CHO is good, it turns out). Or do whatever you did last year with Pulisic. That seemed to work. 11. When you want to play a CF, consider this piece of secret information: Giroud is still very very good at it. 12. Whatever you have been doing to Kante lately, stop doing it. 13. Mount’s only shots should be on direct kicks. 14. Whoever told you that it is against the rules to attack by passing up the middle was lying. 15. Pulisic attacking up the the middle on the dribble is not the same thing as #14. 16. Try giving Roman and Marina a nice gift, like one of your trophies or awards. 17. Please please please stop pushing the midfield deep into the boxes on attack. The counters are killing you. 18. Two words: Not Jorginho
Very nice. Superb, in fact. I'd further suggest that FL buy, read and ask questions about Sam Allardyce's book, "Defensive Organization for Dummies." Probably available from Amazon.
Apparently Chelsea have a shortlist already: Allegri, Tuchel, Hasenhuttl, and the favorite, Rodgers: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/chelsea-draw-up-four-man-23261162 https://www.si.com/soccer/chelsea/n...dan-rodgers-favourite-to-replace-chelsea-boss Rodgers knows Chelsea well, having worked there for four years as head youth coach and reserve team coach. Rumor is Abramovich wants him and the suitcase full of money is ready.
I can't see an EPL manager leaving a team higher in the table mid-season for a team lower in the table. That seems disloyal somehow. I assume we are talking about an end of season move? Which means Frank has time to do some repairs, if he has the ability to think critically about himself and his coaching.
According to an article, Rogers will not be offered the job because he had dissed Chelsea while he worked at Liverpool by saying "he's finally at a big Club"...basically suggesting Chelsea, his old employer, was a smaller club than Liverpool.
Rodgers seems like a twat, and Chelsea is a very unlikeable club run by a loathsome oligarchy. The pettiness is hilarious. You love to see it.
