Which is why southgate should call up musiala as soon as the next squad is announced. We can't afford to lose two young potential stars

There has to be a bit of balance though. There's no way Musiala gets in on merit right now.

I'm also not convinced that we've lost Musah at this stage, but I was surprised that he even accepted the US call-up so perhaps I'm just in denial.

I don't think there's any reason to assume we've lost him. If we had, surely he would have just declared already?

Hope I’m wrong but everything about it says otherwise.

Well, I’m not sure to be honest. It just seems a tad early for him to have made his mind up already. I just can’t see how he would have a real connection to a Country where he was basically born in just because his parents were on holiday at the time and then basically grew up in Italy and England. Having said that, it feels like he’s a man of the modern World with no real connections so to speak so I guess anything can happen. I’m just surprised we haven’t heard more from Italy about being interested in him.

Neither have done enough to warrant a senior call up. Musah is far from pulling up trees at Valencia whilst Musiala is shooting fish in a barrel at Bayern. I’d lean towards Musiala being more deserving at this point if pushed.

Its complicated with Italy. Even if ur born there as a black player u still have to go through citizenship tests before you get a call up

I'm not sure what you mean about black people specifically having to do citizenship tests? Lack of Italian ancestry does restrict your routes to Italian nationality but I'm not aware that skin colour comes into it at all.

Regardless, in Musah's case the main issue seems to be that he didn't quite spend 10 years living there, which would have been his most likely route to citizenship. I doubt he qualifies.

I think he has. More top flight league appearances than Sessegnon, Musiala, Brewster, Nelson, CHO. Can also play a few roles. You could argue the Musiala call up was more cynical than if this one were to happen (Not that I think either were).

The only reason Musah is in the team is because Valancia sold half their squad and brought no one in, and even then he's not playing in his own position, but out on the wing. Musiala forcing his way into the Bayern Munich team is far more impressive, and he's done significantly more with his chances too.

I only brought Musalia up because he’s only played about 3 league/CL games from the start. Not to directly compare them individually.

Musah has just turned 18 and is playing more regularly than his rival squad members. Whether he makes the squad or not is a fair debate but I don’t personally think it would be a cynical call up.

If there was no dual nationality issue I don't think he'd be in the conversation much if at all.

Would he be called up as a CM or a wide player? Both seem forced to me, for different reasons.

I think if anything it’s more to do with the schedule of the other age groups falling to pieces.

As an 8 that can play wide. I felt they could both make a squad quite comfortably.

Not that it matters. Boothroyd is probably going to pick a weird defensive squad to play 3-5-2.

Oh, for the under-21s? Sorry, I thought we were talking about a senior call-up. I'd have no issue with an under-21 call-up for Musah or Musiala; that seems well deserved (and Musiala's already there).

Love that finish. CHO and Eze on either side of our attack would be worth watching regardless of what else Aidy does :ninja:

Valencia are now in the relegation zone and Musah is no longer a starter. He’s only done well relative to his age. Long way to go for him.

I would find a place for Harvey Elliott in my squad.
