Or it's coming from the Browns FO. Edit: Not to imply that's a bad thing, but rather shared resources create a better product.
I know this is beating a dead horse but Crew fans picking a creative secondary kit as their hill to die on will absolutely never make sense to me. Non team color secondary kits are so common everywhere else in the world.
I totally agree. Here's what I'd do with that abomination: 1) Get rid of the blue and red. 2) Make the yellow a solid consistency throughout. 3) Yellow shorts. You'd probably end up with something not unlike the 1998/99 yellow kits and that's perfectly alright. The blue shorts were just all kinds of hideous and uncoordinated.
I'll not be ashamed to admit that I loved everything about the For Columbus kit, including the blue shorts.
People forget that the original uniforms were a) Black shirt with white and yellow stripes on the shoulders and b) white shirt with black and gold stripes on the shoulders. Which is why the next home shirt was the classic, maybe best-ever all white with 3 vertical yellow stripes on the front. You shirts with black accents eventually became the standard but thats not how it started out.
As I've noted before, I like scrapple, so far be it from me to critique another's taste. I didn't mind the blue shorts, per se. I just didn't think they went with the shirt. I've seen teams wear a light blue shirt/shorts combo that wasn't bad.
I never got why this one is held in such high regard. It was typical 90s meh. The opposite of impressive.
...says the man who likes Busch Light![emoji12] And in terms of taste, I still stand by the yellow shirt-black shorts-yellow socks look. Monochrome zzzzzzzzzzzz.
When people speak of the “bumblebee jersey,” is it the one Bill describes, or is it the third jersey from maybe 1997 or ‘98 that was black but had white and yellow sleeve stripes, à la the old Tampa Bay Rowdies? The problem I had with the jersey Bill describes was the large, home plate-shaped white number patches that looked like 1970’s iron-ons. Very MLS 1.0 for sure.
I love the white with yellow vertical stripe jerseys. They should bring them back sometime for a throwback.
I thought the "Bumblebee" was the original 1996 black jersey. The original third jersey (black body, hoop sleeves) was also good stuff. KC had an awful version of that with the full rainbow. DC's had red and white hoops.
It seemed to me that Pre court was changing our colors to honor what supposedly were the citoy's colors, after all he didn't want to be here anyway! All I know is that we played Philadelphia that first game in the For Columbus uniforms and I found myself rooting, mistakenly for Philadelphia most of the game because their uniform colors looked more like our colors than the ones we were wearing!
I liked that blue DC jersey with the red and white hooped sleeves. I thought it could be a good look for the USMNT (and WNT).
I had the same problem! My brain was used to hoping the guy in the "black" shirt (which was really a dark navy) would beat the guy in the "other colors" to the ball or to make the tackle. It was weird to say the least!
Blue & Red in the McDonald’s kit was not a good look . We have been over this before the kit was good the color way was horrendous
