Definitely see his position at left back.

Doesn't move like a winger for me, I think he'll become a left back as well, probably best in a wing back role though. Which of course is good if Southgate stay long term.

Personally think it will great if he develops well at left back/wing back, certainly a better pathway to into the senior set up rather than the usually congested wide forwards where he might have a lot more competition both at Club and International level.

Good to see CHO looking very sharp for Chelsea when he came on, he should be starting in the next game imo.

His movement needs work. Whenever he's on the right he ends up playing like a winger from the 1990's.

That’s because he’s right footed. Modern systems tend to use inverted wingers. He much better on the left because of that but he has Pulisic and Werner ahead of him on the left. His crossing is really good when he’s on form so he can play as a traditional winger on the right too.

Good to see Bursik doing well. England really need a keeper to come good. It’s been a series of disappointments recently.

Smith-Rowe with two positive starts for Arsenal. Really useful possible squad option with his high energy game.

Going to be somewhat challenging to pick the attacking options for this next squad. Just hope Sessegnon doesn’t take an attacking slot with the space available at left back.

Trying to pick an U21 23 player squad -

    Ramsdale, Bursik, Austin.

Lamptey, Aarons, Justin, Sessegnon, Kelly, Godfrey, Guehi, Panzo.

    Bellingham, Jones, Davies, Skipp, Gallagher.

    Eze, CHO, Musiala, Smith-Rowe, Musah.

    Nketiah, Greenwood.

Left back is tricky. I think I would go with Sessegnon and Justin/Kelly as cover.

I’ve probably dropped one too many forwards but feel we need to get these AM’s into the squad.

Smith Rowe is great due to his work rate and ability to play across the front three positions behind the striker

hopefully he gets better technically but he’s very young

I’m hoping he, Nelson and saka are mainstays to come and Reece Nelson and niles as rotation players

nice to have some English youth at arsenal playing

I wonder if one of Skipp, Gallagher or Davies might miss out? Might be a bit overkill for defensive midfielders with Bellingham who can play multiple roles in midfield which might make up space for another striker, probably Brewster even though he’s done very little this season to warrant inclusion but you know how loyalty is rewarded within the England set up. I’m also unsure if Musah will go but Boothroyd has quite recently name dropped him for an Under 21 call up.

Shows the strength of depth we have when we can leave out players like DaSilva, McNeil, Nelson, B Williams, M Longstaff, R Williams, Wilmot, Edwards, Gomes and Madueke. I’ve probably missed out more tbh.

Some more players that could have been in contention include Joe Willock, Balogun, Tangana, N’Lundulu, Tella, Bradley Johnson, Luke Thomas, Jacob Ramsey, Shackleton, Poveda, Mitchell, Bogle, Cantwell ( Championship) and probably more names that are playing in and around first teams in the Prem that I’ve missed.

Maybe. Boothroyd keeps going on about his three squad captains (Godfrey, Davies and Nketiah). So it would be a case of dropping Skipp or Gallagher.

I still for some reason like the idea of keeping them both in that squad though. Play Greenwood only centrally and use CHO in the same manner if needed.

As for Musah with the U20 WC not happening I would definitely pick him. Can play a few roles. A worthy call up regardless of the dual nationality issue.

I forgot about Luke Thomas. Would probably give him a squad place.

Underlines the strength in depth we have. Cant think of too many countries with this much depth

Its hard to really say because from our prospective we primarily watch the English leagues and probably not that much of the other leagues around Europe but I’m sure the Portuguese, Germans, French, Italians and Spanish would or could say similar about their teams also. I think Portugal from our group will be tough, they even have a few playing in our league who play for the Portuguese Development team ;) like Fabio Silva, Neto.

Who would you leave out for Thomas? It’s a nice problem to have though.

It’s tough but it would have to be one of the three RB’s.

Has Musah really done anything to deserve a place in the squad? It would end up looking like a really cynical move in my opinion, and only encourage other dual nationals to wander.

I don’t see Musah switching back, We could should still try and tempt him, but I think that’s one that got away
