I'd just note that our backups (Tarbell) and 3rd stringers (Jimenez) are good enough to start in Austin.
Seems to me we will still need to find one more striker unless Berry is in plans to actually be on the team and contribute. way too many keepers i think Porter & Bez want to keep 4 guys remember them saying in a article that it works out well for practice. Tarbell honestly wasn’t that good he is solid in holding the correct position and our defense was fantastic. He will get shelled in Austin but he probably will get a pay raise . Unless they build a really good D over there it could be career suicide but who wouldn’t want more money and a high probability to start . The fact our staff likes Bush better than Tarbell is all i care about. I would have rather sold Tarbell to Austin for a intl spot or something but maybe we didn’t want to get stuck with his contract
Bradley Wright-Phillips is going to play home games in Columbus. I'm not going to tell you exactly how excited I am, but if I'm still this excited four hours from now, I'll have to call my doctor.
Austin continues to acquire assets from Columbus. It makes business sense for the Austin Football Company to conduct these transactions as they work toward acheiving their company objectives.
"Oh, I'm an alien. I'm a legal alien. I'm an Englishman in Crew York." Time to bust out the Heinz Beans and HP Sauce to celebrate our new player.
I wish I was drinking the Kool-Aid you folks were about BWP. Yeah, guy has a great history of scoring goals in MLS, but he's 35 and not getting any younger. I'm not upset with the pick-up, but I certainly aren't as excited as you lot.
I'm not doing cartwheels or dancing the mambo over it. Of course it's also true that I can't do either of those things anyway, but the point applies. Nonetheless, it should be noted that in 2020 he scored eight goals with six assists in 18 games (14 starts). Not 2012 or 2015, but this very year. If he can come anywhere close to that, this is a huge pickup of a solid guy who knows what his role is to be and is entirely comfortable with it.
8 goals and 6 assists in 18 games last year. 14 starts. 1,081 minutes. 12th in the league in goals. With everyone around him playing more minutes (save Akinola). And 6 assists. Zardes had 12 G and 4 A in 1,717 min. That is 0.629 goals per 90. Old school points (2 points per goal, 1 for an assist) equals 28 points. 1.47 points per 90. BWP had 8 G and 6 A in 1,081 min. That is 0.666 goals per 90. Old school points is 22. 1.83 points per 90. Pozuelo won league MVP. 9 G & 10 A in 2,015 minutes. 0.40 goals per 90. 28 points. 1.25 points per 90. Rossi. 14 G and 4 A in 1,698 minutes. Led league in goals. 0.742 goals per 90. 32 points. 1.70 points per 90. Ruidiaz. 12 G and 4 A in 1,427. 0.757 goals per 90. 28 points. 1.77 points per 90. The guy produces points per 90 at a better rate than the league MVP, best XI CF, and Rossi (not to mention better G/90 than Zardes), and is in their neighborhood in G/90, and you are saying he is no longer productive?
Next year, what scares defenses more after chasing after ZZ Top, Santos, and company for 70 minutes? A. Adi B. BWP
If he started 14 out of 18 this year it sounds like he thinks his role is going to be a starter not coming in off the bench. I trust that he recognizes that we already have a starter in that role on this team. Clearly BWP. But....he started 14 out of 18 games last year. If he has accepted the role of a late game sub, great. If he comes in and (1)disrupts team chemistry bitchin about playing time or (2) doesn't take a pay cut then I am less happy about the signing. Hoping for the best.
Zardes only sees the bench due to squad rotation. He is the starter and Porter is not changing that. BWP will know his role. He wants to win a championship. With CCL games this year he will find plenty of minutes.
That Gignac dude who played for Tigres last night just turned 35. He's pretty solid. BWP is 9 months older than him. If we were bringing him to start, then obviously this would make no sense. I'll just add that certain players with a foreign pedigree come here seeming to think this will be an easy retirement. Other, like Robbie Keane or Schelotto, come here to play. BWP is in that latter category.
Have to figure as well that we are going to miss Zardes some in 2021 due to USMNT camp/games and then we also have CCL so having depth is going to be really important.
Oh come on people. Bez didn't bring him in under false pretenses. He knows the role he will play and is OK with it or he wouldn't be signing. Calm down.
BWP is not Connor Casey nor is he going to start over zardes. He will bag us probably 2 game winners next year. He also chose to come to Columbus when every other team but apparently LAFC probably wanted him.
