I'll keep saying it..... Berhalter needs to give Cohen a buzz. Our GK depth is shallow. Slim pickins', IMO, after Steffen. Matt Turner - maybe - but I give Cohen the edge. Oh.... on those highlights.... how did that first goal against Cohen stand? It looked like he was clearly impeded. Great PK. He got down so quick. I loved the reaction, too. Pure excitement and relief.
I can see Josh getting called up to the Israel squad in the future. There is a lack of quality at that position. The starting goalkeeper, Ofir Marciano, plays for Hibs which is not really much of an upgrade from domestic competition. After that you have Ariel Harush who sits on the bench for FC Nitra in Slovakia. Last is Itamar Nitzan from Beitar Jerusalem. So the two goalkeepers that everyone is waiting for them to complete their five year residency are Maccabi Tel Aviv's Brazilian born keeper, Daniel Tenenbaum who has four years of residency and Josh who has almost two years. Both are younger than the current selection but Josh has a lot more time until he is eligible.

Bill Reno. He runs that website and has been rating GKs for years. He posts on BS, too, but I don't remember his user name.
🇺🇸 Josh Cohen (@JCohenHere) recorded his 14th clean sheet of the Ligat ha'Al season in just 25 appearances. 👐Even more impressive, he's only conceded 14 goals in that span. https://t.co/UyPBDDHE4x— Yanks Abroad (@usmnt_abroad) April 12, 2021
I've been pounding the pavement for a while for Cohen to get USMNT look. Outside of Steffen, it is wide open. With his Jewish heritage, Israel could snap him up. It also wouldn't surprise me if Cohen has some suitors from a bigger league.
Maccabi Petah Tikva 1-2 Maccabi Haifa Josh started and went 90 minutes. He stopped a penalty kick in the 30th minute. His 4th of 5 penalty kicks this campaign which I think is actually a new record for the league.
Doesn't he have to have lived at least 5 years in Israel before he can play for their national team? @BostonRed , any input on that?
https://m.sport5.co.il/articles.aspx?FolderID=64&docID=361190 This article from Israel in February says he has another 2.5 years until he can play for the national team.
Pretty much, assuming his parents or grandparents weren't born in Israel (Israeli citizenship is more tied to religious heritage than place of birth & most Jews weren't born in Israel). He moved to Israel in July 2019, so he'd need at least 3 more years to be eligible, so roughly July of 2024. for players that began living on the territory from the age of 18: at least five years.

Game ends 2-2. Huge result for first-place Haifa as it keeps second-place Tel-Aviv 4 points abreast with 3 league games to play. Haifa's magic number for points won and/or dropped by Tel-Aviv is 5. Incidentally, these two teams meet again mid-week in the Israeli Cup semis.

Here are highlights of the game. Due to Israel's high vaccination rate and low COVID numbers, there are no limitations on fans in the stadiums.
Looks like that was an exciting end-to-end affair between two bitter rivals. Man.... that crowd. I miss the impact of the supporters. A couple of nice saves in there from Cohen.

Starts with a title on the line: No surprise: American GK Josh Cohen starts for Maccabi Haifa with 90 minutes separating the Greens from their first league title in a decade. https://t.co/Sb3gJhOiHQCC: @BrianSciaretta @NJEMurray— Daniel Karell 🎗️ (@DanielKarell) May 26, 2021
A 1-1 draw courtesy of a soul-crushing 90th-minute equalizer keeps the title race alive for another round. Maccabi Haifa have a 2-point lead over Maccabi Tel Aviv.
