Not to be a downer but those highlights don't show anything amazing to me, every shot pretty much he has nobody around him and has time to pick out a pass. Watch him for England when we play a good team and he just passes it sideways or backwards like Henderson.
Pope is the solid option. He pretty much saves everything you expect him to (and a bit more) and rarely appears to commit howlers. He is, however, probably involved more than any other qualified keeper, and it's always easy for keepers to stand out if they're facing more shots on target.
Since Seaman retired from England duty we have only had five keepers to make at least 10 combined proper UEFA Cup/Europa League/Champions League appearances. David James, Chris Kirkland, Paul Robinson, Fraser Forster and Joe Hart. You could probably make an argument that Joe Hart was at a high level at points in his career. The rest of those mentioned have never been considered comparable to the best. We've struggled to find keepers that can even be the standard above bottom half PL/Championship promotion quality.
and his ball distribution imo pretty much rules him out of playing for a team with higher aspirations. He's a good keeper but like most of our recent keepers would go into the role with a lack of relevant experience.
Fouls won sounds dodgy !! They should reword it say ‘most fouled’ or something... Last night he was whacked heavily a few times and the ref blew up for a free kick but didn’t book the perpetrators so they kept doing it !!
1340055920966070273 is not a valid tweet id Should Sancho be a certainty to maintain his place in this Squad or be dropped to the U21’s? I’m not so sure he should be in the current Squad on current form tbh.
This form won't continue. I don't see how the squad would benefit from losing him, unless for some reason it comes down to him or Foden. Greenwood and Barnes have no real relationship with this team yet, the tournament has come too soon for both of them in my view.
The next squad with the three games in quick succession is also going to be a 30 man squad. Not worth demoting from that to play friendlies with Aidy.
Wouldn’t it be the U21 Championship though and not friendlies? I think Sancho makes a 30 man squad but not a 23 on current form.
Same applies to Sterling then Both are well out of form .. Although I always said Sterling benefitted massively from playing in a dominant team - feeding him countless chances to score .. now City are struggling somewhat he’s not half the player . That’s the difference to Grealish who plays well just about every game even if Villa aren’t playing well
If that was the case gabriel jesus would score loads of goals etc. Sterling is scoring loads for England too. Yes he's not the most technical but hes brilliantly effective
Yes. Sorry I’ve got the meet up dates wrong. He would make my 23. Either way demoting him at this point with a tournament so close seems harsh. I’m not entirely sure who is taking his place in a 23?
Jesus gets too many injuries to get into good scoring form plus Pep juggles around the team too much I think
John stones has been brilliant for a while now, especially at the defensive side. he’s gotta be in the next squad - just hope he can stay fit
He’s got all the tools to be an amazing CB for years to come Hopefully he’s cut out those crazy moments !!
He seems like a different player from the last few years. I’ve been quite critical of him over the years but I think he’s become more aggressive lately and doesn’t seem to back off the forwards which I think is great to see. I’m not sure whether his problems off the field had previously been an issue for him but he seems much more focused these days which is great to see. He surely has to be in the next squad if he continues this really good form.
Any chance James Justin can get in ahead of Walker as the utility defender? Can play all across the back and doesn't have Walker's brainfart.
Jack taken out by Livermore after 3 minutes .. leaves him flat on the deck .. ref does nothing .. var didn’t check ..
