That's the reason given in the MLS press release. Really sucks for Minnesota and Kansas City - especially Minnesota as they'll be traveling between any and every future game. At least Kansas City will stay at home regardless of results. M-I-C K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E Mickey Mouse! Soccer league! To put a team at a competitive disadvantage like that in the POs is garbage. Not surprising, however.
Actually if you go back to May/June is amazing that we finished the season (I hope I'm not speaking too soon). Many European Leagues failed to finish their 2019/20 season, USL failed to complete its season, and on national TV, the Denver Broncos started a NFL game without a recognized QB. Does MLS still have a pool gk just in case?
To be fair, every big league but France managed to finish, and without major incident at that... And the French players seemed to regret not being able to finish...
As others have stated, all the big leagues but France finished. And that wasn't due to some mismanagement issue, it was because they called stop in the spring. Ditto for most (all?) the other leagues that didn't finish. In fact, one could certainly make the argument that NOT playing was/is the better decision. But that is beside the point. Which you seemed to miss or just ignore. Finishing despite COVID doesn't prove MLS is a super well run league. Virtually every league that has tried has done so. MLS has made a mockery of competitive fairness from the jump. Any well-run, respectable league should adhere to that. The rules should be the same for everyone. They should have kept the game as it was (which was already screwy). Now, with COVID, some hard decisions have to be made. But this is about $$. The league is willing to screw over Minny & KC (and to a lesser extent the WC winner), so they can make more money. Period. That's why they are Mickey Mouse. And always have been. And show no signs of changing.
Ligue Un, Eredivisie, Belgian Pro League, Scottish Premier League and the Austrian Bundesliga were all suspended and not resumed. The 4 big leagues and the Euro stuff concluded under threat of losing $$$ millions in TV money. First of all Minny and KC get the same share of that money as anyone else. Secondly, Kevin Russell, Kei Kamara, Alan Pulido and Ethan Findley get to strut their stuff in front of an unusually large domestic TV audience. Hopefully, it'll be good for the league.
I'm always puzzled by the fact that people use "mickey mouse" as an insult. Somehow, one of the most successful and dominant businesses in the history of humanity is used to indicate bumbling, unserious, and "making it up as they go". I don't get it.
Well, with Star Wars they definitelly are making it up as they go. But it is the exception not the rule.
Well, with Star Wars they created something that far outperformed the sequel trilogy, including the best grossing domestic film of all time, and basically revived the legacy that George Lucas nearly killed. Episodes 7-9 and Rogue One are all top 15 all time, something that NONE of the original or sequel trilogy accomplished. Now they've got The Mandalorian which is my favorite show of 2020 by a wide margin. So, yeah, Mickey Mouse is only an insult to people who hate success.
What? What?? Also Money =/= Quality. Rogue One and Mandalorian are Ok.. the rest are garbage storywise, specially 8 and 9. But this is not about MLS PLayoffs, gladly will disccuss the subjet with you if you want on PM's.
I believe all 6 movies managed to be in the top 15 all-time when they were released. Adjusting for inflation the original trilogy is all still in the top 17, with the Episode 4 being #2 all time after Gone With the Wind. Episode 7 is 11th, Episode 1 is 19th, And before people complain about using "inflation adjustment" be aware that the top 10 all time without adjustment includes last year's "live action" Lion King, which was a trash movie by all accounts, and Frozen 2. Needless to say that list shouldn't be used as any sort of indicator of quality or success, since it is so heavily biased to the last 5 years (only Avatar and Titanic pre-date 2015 in the top 10).
You cannot compare all-time grosses without adjusting for ticket price increases. $12 now vs $0.05 for Gone with the Wind.
FWIW, top 10 ADJ Gross as of 2019; 10. Snow White & The Seven Dwarves (1937) 9. The Exorcist (1973) 8. Doctor Zhivago (1965) 7. Jaws (1975) 6. The Ten Commandments (1956) 5. Titanic (1997) 4. Nah, its the history of a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. (Admit it, you heard the opening note after you read that, didn't you)
For what it's worth, the mighty NFL had to reschedule the Ravens - Steelers game three times, from last Thursday (Thanksgiving night) to Sunday, then to Tuesday, and then yet again to tomorrow (Wed). They're now playing tomorrow on NBC at 3:40 in the afternoon. Why tomorrow at 3:40 in the afternoon? NBC is airing the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting tomorrow night.
And those reschedulings have cascaded into the next week where the Steelers will play an early Monday game against the Team With No Name and Baltimore will play on Tuesday.
1. Not PO games 2. COVID related Not the same thing. Obviously. Or, should I say, apparently not so obvious for some.
