No one is disputing Jason's contribution to the club. The point I was trying to make is that no one is fighting for the number 22 when moving to a new club so RSL still holds the crown for embarrassing jersey retirement debacles.
Fair enough. I was looking at it as a whole. I still think the retirement was dumb, just less so than it was for 22. I do like honoring players, but it should be via statues, plaques, stuff like that. Retiring a number should be something league wide for a truly exceptional player. Like Gretzky.
Barcelona fire Head Coach Quique. Expect them to hire one of the assistant coaches and keep moving in the same direction. That’s just how successful clubs do things. Amirite?
I'm picking up what you're putting down here but the difference is people actually want to coach Barca. Maybe that's why we don't even look.
I think RSL could find a very qualified and experienced coach, if, and this is a big IF, they could convince Dear Leader to quit meddling and let the soccer folks do the soccer stuff.
Also, a lot of assistants tend to coach a team in a lower league first, before moving to a top team. Had Freddy started as the coach of the Monarchs, proved himself, then moved to RSL, I don't think any of us would be complaining. But going from an assistant to two fired coaches, then being promoted, it's just not how it should happen.
Uh... Freddy coached the monarchs for their first two years of existence Serious question: would you guys rather have Freddy or Jamison as the first team coach?
Our history of hiring internally for everything provides an encouraging career path for all employees. Rio Tinto groundskeeper excited at the prospect of becoming head coach of Real Salt Lake some day.
Didn’t know where to post this. It’s just an FYI. Hearing 2020 Scotiabank @Concacaf Champions League will resume most likely in 3rd week of December. Quarters, Semis & Final, will all be 1 game knockout. Teams will be in same location. Games will most likely be either in: California, Texas, Florida or Mexico #TSN690 #Concacaf— Tony Marinaro (@TonyMarinaro) October 15, 2020
The last couple of days I’ve watched several videos of Diego Maradona. For whatever reasons I haven’t really spent much time on him previously. So, it’s been something akin to an epiphany for me. He did things on the pitch that humans shouldn’t be able to do. I didn’t realize how stocky and physical he was. Eyes in the back of his head. The perfect #10.
The other weird thing is, and maybe this is due to video quality, but the game played SO much slower back then. In particular, I love that the GK can't pick up the ball after it is deliberately played to them by their own teammates.
He was a player beyond his time. His agility on the ball is amazing to watch. It's like he is the only player capable of sprinting while everyone else is stuck in a jog. There is a documentary on Netflix about Maradona coaching a second division side in Mexico that is very much worth a watch. The man has monsters but is a legend in football

"I'm looking to take a very active role on a daily basis...". Hopefully in a more supportive way, rather than the meddling approach some owners take.
While we're taking flyers on previous villains with mediocre coaching records, the Galaxy (who finished level on points with us) went and hired Greg Vanney. Not saying I thought we had a chance with him, but it paints a pretty different picture
