They say the whole team is tested every 2 days (the woman who lives in my house is wildly offended by this as she feels it is an inexcusable waste of short-supply PCH kits). And since they told us the positives were taken on Sunday and on Tuesday the question is did they skip yesterday or drag everyone in? Or will they be testing today? Either way, holding my breath. Any more positives and its tough to see MLS letting this game go on Sunday.
Waiting on yesterday's results, says Jacob Myers: For all those awaiting #Crew96 updates: They’re awaiting results from today’s testing. It usually takes about 12 hrs.— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) November 26, 2020
Tea leaf reading: probably not Mensah. He was quoted in the Dispatch from an interview at practice on Wednesday. I'd feel much better if they had reported that Nagbe, Zardes, Zelarayan and Mensah were singing four part harmony during water breaks.
Per Myers, no update until tomorrow afternoon. No #Crew96 updates at the moment. Been informed the club won’t have an update on the four Covid-19 cases or subsequent rounds of testing until tomorrow’s press conferences beginning at 1:30pm.— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) November 27, 2020
True J Dub says in the playoff Nashville @ Columbus QF thread...... also because a certain SOMEONE dropped 375 accounts on me to work by friday, so my thread/poll creating time is very limited. Catchy.
Nashville today is Austin ten years ago. Amateur drunks go there to get hammered listening to third rate music so they can go home and brag to their friends about where they were. Previously occupied by some pretty cool people who have left because it sucks now. All the wonderful, awesome old joints that made the place so incredibly special have been bulldozed to make way for condos, chain stores and sterile bars that hang truckloads of flea market junk on the walls.
Multiple sources tell ESPN that two more #Crew96 players have tested positive for #COVID19. That makes a total of six in the last week.— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) November 27, 2020
If you stay on Broadway expect to feel like you’re at a bachelorette party or someone’s cheapass wedding with the band playing covers of awful “dance & party” music. Michael Jackson, Otis Day & The Knights etc. But young good country artists hungry to make a name for themselves... not so much anymore. We’re down another two players-ouch that’s gonna leave a mark.
Can’t see any way the match is played on Sunday and if Tuesday is the only option if the match is postponed I don’t see it happening as well.
The players who tested positive today were surely practicing a couple days ago, right? So wouldn't the whole team have to quarantine per the protocols?
Not good. I am officially worried this could spiral out of control. IDK what kind of protocols the team uses, but if we are just testing + everything else being kind of normal, then heads need to roll. Again, just because you are testing people does not make it safe. People can become infectious after one negative test and before the next positive one.
a) It's already out of control b) They have a top notch guy, Dr Tom Hospel, who's also the medical advisor to the PGA tour, serving as the Crew's Chief Medical Officer and his word is law per Bez. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Doc Edwards chose him. On top of that MLS has a serious protocol they have to follow as well. https://www.dispatch.com/story/spor...w-tom-hospel-coronavirus-pandemic/5878650002/ c) Either way, I'm relatively confident that the guys in charge understand the deal way better than a bunch of us internet layabouts.
We had full team training on Tuesday, after positive tests. Maybe Wed, too? Does that seem wise? Mileage may vary, but not to me it doesn't. Same thing on one's "out of control" meter. 6 guys is not quite there for me. Though, depending on who is positive.. I mean, if we had 2 first team guys test positive Sun/Mon, and 2 more Tue/Wed, and we continued to have full practices....that seems awful dumb to me. It is a bit more palatable if it is the reserve guys. Who, presumably, spend more time in training with each other than the first team. Again, YMMV.
Reminder about the league's policy towards forfeiting a playoff game. MLS has always said they would attempt to reschedule a match that was postponed due to #COVID19. Only if that couldn't be done would the COVID-infected team have to forfeit.— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) November 27, 2020
So, If I'm understanding this correctly, the only thing that could possibly happen between Sunday and, say, Tuesday, that would make any positive difference in terms of being able to play this game safely, is if somewhere in there the rest of the Crew roster all test negative, probably more than once. The six (the cynic/realist in me would add, "and counting") players who've tested positive could well be out the rest of the playoffs. Unless some of them are found to have produced false positives, I'm guessing they'll be in quarantine for at least two weeks. Obviously, we all want these players - whoever they are - to get beyond the virus and return to perfect health. But there is something odd about a club that's done so well in this area to this point, suddenly getting hit with a wave of cases. Considering the prevalence of the virus now, there are numerous cases where contact tracing really can't determine how someone who got sick was exposed. For the sake of the team, and the locker room, I really hope none of them was just a dumbass and went out to a restaurant or bar, picked up COVID, and spread it to his teammates.
