While Europe’s eyes are on America and Belarus, Moldova voted out their pro Russian president and voted in a pro-EU, anti-corruption candidate. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54942847 it was not even close, with President-elect Maia Sandu winning 57.7% of the vote. Does this mean Moldova moves closer to the EU? Do little green men start showing up in Transnistria? Does Moldova start agitating for reunification with Romania? Where is shurik when you need him.
This infuriates me. My grandpa was born in Moldova but we don’t have a birth certificate — if we did, I could get Moldovan citizenship.
For the incumbent. It makes sense as that part of the country is mostly Russian or Ukrainian (though I wonder if the ethnic Ukrainians will not be anti-Russian). It is also asserted that 15% of the votes were from Moldovan expats and they went heavy for the challenger Sandu. Attached is the map I saw on Wikipedia.
I got stopped by the cops for jaywalking in Tiraspol in 2012 on my way to Kyiv for England v Sweden in Euro 2012.
