With the future uncertain in Utah for the Royals, there's a potential ownership group looking to bring the #NWSL back to Kansas City.Reporting with @PaulTenorio at @TheAthleticSCCR https://t.co/8by17ZUgtI— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) November 24, 2020
My story on the Kansas City ownership group that wants to purchase Utah Royals FC. #URFC #NWSL #woso https://t.co/MjDHwmPWPq— Alex Vejar (Tortured Poet version) (@AlexMVejar) November 24, 2020
SLC had better attendance than KC? So team needs to stay in SLC as part of the sale of the whole organization - stadium, training center, Royals, Real, Monarchs. Best bang for the buck when selling. If KC comes up with a good group that wants a team, just add as expansion team.
I agree with this. A key reason is that there is support for women’s soccer in the Salt Lake area, possibly second only to the support in Portland. So, hopefully it can work for them to stay where they are.
it would be a shame to see the Royals moved. Hopefully this ownership group would also be willing to have an expansion team if another group is able to keep them in Salt Lake City.
NEWS: Utah Royals players were informed today that the franchise is relocating to Kansas City. The sale of the team, however, is still not officially complete. Legal details still to be finalized. NWSL clearly feels they will be sorted shortly. KC outcome has been imminent.— Jeff Kassouf (@JeffKassouf) December 6, 2020
More details: Apparently it was either fast track this relocation or the team would cease operations. No ownership was available to keep them in Utah. No word where they will play as Sporting KC isn't willing to share their stadium. The #NWSL is heading back to Kansas City. Players for the Utah Royals were notified today, though the sale to the new ownership group in KC is not yet final.Only the start of the story, honestly.More at @TheAthletic (🔓): https://t.co/6oM7tgKH9k— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) December 6, 2020
----------------------- This is so wrong. If true, SLC needs to get "expansion' team and keep the name
As a FCKC diehard fan the first time around I was devastated when the franchise moved to Utah, but at that time, it was the right move. It is beyond frustrating that poor ownership has once again moved this club. And believe me, I feel for the fans in SLC. As a Kansas Citian I was skeptical of these rumors mostly because if Sporting Kansas City wasn't involved, I didn't think it would work. I am encouraged by the ownership and the fact that Brittany Matthews and Patrick Mahomes are involved....because, well, Mahomes is the biggest / most loved celebrity in KC by a long shot. I know some wanted Amy Lepeilbet to be Head Coach but as far as KC area knowlege (without Vlatko) Huw Williams is the only choice. I am cautiously optimistic, and so happy to have a team back!!!!
Felicitations on getting your team back -- that must feel great. And did you see that they signed Jaycie Johnson today!
