What is it with Keita? When it looks as if he's finally getting into a rhythm, he crocks. Sigh-- hopes it's not that serious but it'd just be his (and our) rum luck if he's out for a long spell.
It’s so frustrating with him. I’ll put Shaqiri in this category as well. Their performances as Liverpool players have been overwhelming good in my opinion. It’s just that both are never available.
Liverpool's record-breaking 64-match unbeaten home league run includes 53 wins. Since Brendan Rodgers took charge of Leicester, they have lost all three of their Premier League meetings with Liverpool; conceding nine goals in the process - their most against any opponent in the competition under him. Liverpool have only conceded three goals in their past seven games across all competitions (W6 D1), with this their fourth clean sheet within this run. Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has netted four goals in five Premier League appearances against Leicester; his most against any opponent in the competition. Roberto Firmino has scored two goals in Liverpool's five league games at Anfield this season; he only scored once in 19 Premier League home games in the whole of 2019-20. Jota's goal came after a sequence of 30 passes; since Opta started keeping records of this data in 2006-07, this is the most in the build-up to any Liverpool goal in the Premier League. Since the start of the 2018-19 season, only Liverpool team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold has made as many assists as Andy Robertson (26) in the Premier League.
Well, great to read the comms at work today. Interestingly wasn't that fussed about this game - really expected us to have their number despite the chops and changes. The Keita issue is the biggest worry - come on we need players who can string some games together fer chrissakes.
A lot of great performances today. But have to give special mention to Jones. Not the most eye catching out there. But by my count he made three "half errors" all day (and those were under pressure). Very, very impressive.
He did - he strung a couple and a half together ---- two for the Ivory Coast or Guinea or wherever the heck he hails from.... Great player but his mother must have had an affair with Daniel Agger's Dad....
give him a break Lem, there are about 40 footballers (50 max) in the history of football who always see every option.....
He was very good. he did make one very silly error late in the game which someone else cleared up, but that kind of thing - passing without really looking across the top of your box (or 10-15 yards out) lackadaisically like that is okay at 3-0, reprovable at 2-0, but sometimes becomes a disaster at 2-1 or 1-0 as a very good brazilian team once learned to their ultimate cost. Hendo (or Virgil) would have given him a roasting for that one, maybe Milner would too, but Milner was probably too tired today by that stage. Fvck .. James Milner ... every recovering run done sensibly .... every blade of grass covered, every trick in the book ... every door named after him ..... what an inspirational player ..... He was like fvcing Paolo Maldini out there today....
Apparently it's not until a space appears. They are stlll touching liek me and Monica Bellucci in my dream...
Agreed with 99% of that. But (and I may be made to look silly later with this, but I wouldn;t write off Spurs. Jose has the midfielders and defenders he wants. I.E., enough to cramp a side lie city and come away with a win. Add to that Bale, Kane and the incredible machine that is Son and they will score in most games. They may implode for vbarious reasons, but I wouldn;t bet on it now. I think we need to beat them in a couple of weeks to put down a bit of a marker....if they are still within two or four points of us come x-mas, they can win this thing too.... Mourinho will want to do it for Spite v Man Utd ...
9 games in, not even a quarter of the season and on the back of probably our best performance of the season so far (Atalanta away excepted) is probably no time to be making predictions, but…… We’ve had an arse load of injuries and suffered our worst defeat in decades and it still looks like to win the title this season, you’re going to have to finish ahead of Liverpool. City will probably get things together a bit, but they still have not replaced Kompany and now Silva so I don’t see them pushing us at all. In truth there are three sides: Spurs, Chelsea and Leicester. We saw what we did to Leicester yesterday; I think Lampard’s Chelsea have a soft underbelly, especially if you get physical with them and I wonder about Spurs’ squad depth. You don’t want to get ahead of yourself, but absent another 3? season long injuries or a run of Villa away games, it does look as if we’ve a better chance this season than we did last season before we really pulled away.
It's an amazing evolution in the team that we can play half "back-ups" and put in a performance like this. With Rafa and even with Rodgers - we had no real quality in the back-ups. Torres or Gerrard injured - we dropped levels. Sturridge injured - same problem. Now - we have some real talent that is itching to play. Origi doesn't even make the bench most games.
So what does this say about the transfer strategy and Klopps system? It seems as long as the personnel suit the system it doesn't matter which of the squad are playing on the day. Huge credit to the team yesterday for executing tactics to perfection. Leicester rarely threatened and Vardy didn't get a sniff while at the other end Lpool could have easily doubled the final score.
Early in the second half against Leicester, Naby Keïta was forced off with a thigh injury and James Milner, who had been excelling at right-back, was moved into midfield. Moments later, Milner played a perfect through ball to Sadio Mané, whose shot stung the palms of Kasper Schmeichel. It summed up Milner’s night: the captain later swung in a corner for Roberto Firmino to score, having spent the first half repelling Leicester attacks. Brendan Rodgers had targeted Milner as a weak spot; “I would as well” was Milner’s typically modest response after the game. Jürgen Klopp was keen to highlight Milner’s “really special” performance in two positions in his patchwork team; the 34-year-old’s versatility and resilience were symbolic of a Liverpool display that will leave their title rivals deflated.
