Generally I think John Strong is OK, but he just hit on a very MLS pet peeve of mine. A hugely important goal gives SJ the lead in a play-off match vs the top seed, and the first thing he yells is that Shea Salinas has his first play-off goal. It's a team sport. San Jose just took the lead on the top seed. The fact that it is Salinas' first play off goal is, at best, a footnote. It's not the first thing you scream.
Objection overruled. He said "It's 2-1, it's Shea Salinas." I don't think anyone watching the match is incapable of adjusting the score in their mind because John Strong doesn't tell them. The fact that it's Selinas's first career playoff goal is information most viewers won't have on their own.
Exactly. I already knew the 8 seed took the lead on the 1 seed. I didn't know that it was the first ever playoff goal for Salinas. That's very good announcing, and something more announcers should be aware of in the moment.
So halftime thought that is tangentially MLS related. Zlatan scored 2 more goals today against Napoli. He has played 529 minutes over 6 games. He has 10 goals. He is scoring this year at a rate of a goal every 53 minutes. Remember when people shit on MLS because he was scoring roughly a goal every game as a 37 year old? Think they say the same thing about Serie A when a 39 year old is doing it?
So far in the playoffs, every game has had its moments of drama and uncertainty, with the exception of Inter Miami at Nashville, which proved to be a yawner.
