Berghuis was ok but look at how the Dutch were playing with the driving runs from the outside backs and midfield.
They were really going for it.
It’s not like Berghuis was playing out of his mind.
    Just being honest.

It sucks but fixture congestion is going to be a real issue for all of these players.
A couple of extra days rest is not completely a bad thing I suppose.

You might ask where de Vrij was on the goal as the attack came down the right side and he was not there. Blind is one of the best passers on the team and can bring the ball up from the back better than any other CB. If de Ligt and van Dijk are healthy he doesn't play.

  5. Well, before it disappeared you could highlight a part and then a "quote" balloon would appear next to the highlighted part and when you clicked that quote balloon, in the reply window the selected part would appear as a quote.

I don’t mind Berghuis been selected. I think he is a very useful sub. I still think Koop can do it better than Klassen. As for Blind he is a great passer but a liability as a CD since he is too short and slow. It’s a shame his lack of athleticism because he has one of the best football brain in the team without a doubt. Let’s not forget his crosses from the LB that have ended in goals and important opportunities for the team.

Final Four participants don't have to play extra fixtures (have fewer WC qualis to play instead).
Regardless, I was talking about hosting the event. I would have preferred the Final Four to be played in Holland instead of Italy.

Bottom line whatever XI deBoer puts out there isnt gonna be good enough to beat the big countries and win next summer's Euro.

They should instead focus on building a contender for WC 2022, Euro 2024 and WC 2026

I’d rather judge a CB on his defensive ability first, and than we can look at other qualities. Blind can pass like Xavi for all I care, if he can’t defend properly than he’s gotta go imo.

I’d rather have a Chiellini-type at CB than Blind if you understand what I’m saying.

Mind you that Blind played those incredible passes from the back in the past not from the CB spot but from the left-back position.

He’s the typical jack of all trades but master of none.

I will say this squad has excellent fighting spirit. They never give up and always try to come back when they're behind.

Thats an excellent quality to have and could get us pretty far into the knockout rounds

When were we ever really likely to do so except for our glory days of the past where we had world-class players in almost every position?

We tend to punch above our weight in these tournaments. It’s either we have a world-class attack but a bad defense or the other way around and we still make it work somehow.

Van Gaal’s group of 2014 and van Basten 2010 are a case in point. We have a knack for getting out of groups of death. After that you never know, we take it one game at a time.

Agree with this. I was judging more Blind as slow LB not as a CD.

A pretty encouraging international break, all things considered.

FdB has now clear front-runners for RB and LB (Dumfries and Wijndal). This is a huge breakthrough... as both positions have been operating like a revolving door past couple years.

Klaassen as one of the "6's" is quite promising. He brings balance and energy. Sure, he may look slow, but we we have one of the best, if not the best, CD combo in international stage (see below). Koopmeiners is a nice option, he is not too far... but right now, Klaassen definitely wins in the experience column. De Roon moves down in the pecking order, and it's finally an end of era for Strootman (whom I have a soft spot on over the years - he's been a great and faithful soldier for Oranje!)

Attacking options are a mess at the moment. Without Memphis, this team is completely toothless. Berghuis is a useful and capable stopgap. Stengs is an exciting talent, though he needs to improve vastly and swiftly on his decision making and confidence (too tentative - which is understandable, as these were only his couple first Senior caps). I am most excited for Malen. He's the kind of direct, fast player that the team is currently lacking. (Why on earth he had to wait until today!) His ability to take on defender on 1v1 situations is a great variation, as compared to Memphis or Berghuis/Stengs who like to dwell on the ball and pick their timing. Need Bergwijn to come back healthy from his lingering injuries issues. He is another fast, direct player who can come from the bench and speed up the tempo.

Central defense will be fine. De Ligt and Virgil will come back stronger than before. And De Vrij is a luxury to have on the bench.

If Ihattaren manages to get back into last season’s form and makes some more strides before the Euro’s he will be our best player instantly together with Memphis and it will be interesting to see how FdB will manage to integrate him into the team. Especially if he will be deployed in midfield.

Im in the same boat as well but must add alot needs to change especially from selection point of view, especially in context to who ,when, why and where. Focus should shift from short term goals to long term goals and this is where its all crumbling down within short time frame atm. You look at De Roon, he was major player under Koeman and a starter for how many successive games only to be overtaken now by klaassen who himself has his own short falls and down the line will end up just like de Roon. This filling of the potholes needs to stop and perhaps other alternatives should be on the cards such as better transitioning of u21s and even those who are playing outside of the top 3 and who wont get the same preference as their other compatriots. Im talking about players like Azor Matusiwa especially and maybe joey Veerman. I mean you look at strootman selection all this time. They said the team needed him because he was an influential figure, having him around even on the bench and then finally they decide to drop him. Its all going down the drain.

Van Annholt over Bakker is another one you can point at.What are the expectation here, goals and so forth just raises the eye brow.

So yeah hoping to see more players transition into NT and more vibrant team in WC Qatar.

I think the 1974 team was the only one where there were uniformly excellent players at every position. Other teams always had problems that were dealt with through tactics.

I think you meant van Marwijk in 2010. van Basten was NT manager in 2006 and 2008. Even in 2010, the Dutch were hurt because of van Persie's injury in the Italy friendly from a Chiellini tackle. Had Robben scored on the breakaway, the Dutch would have been champions.

Ah yes, you are right. I was thinking about Euro 2008 where we beat France and Italy to get out of the “group of death”.

For the upcoming Euro, I hope Mo, Koop, Steng, Malen all can improve to earn starting spots/more playing time and Bakker and other young players can be called up to replace Veltman, Babel, Vilhena, PVA.
I'd like to see Malen as striker with Memphis and Steng and Luuk as the pinch hitter (sub in last 10 min).
In the midfield Klaassen did a good job for the last few games but I'm not sure if he can keep up vs stronger opponents. Frenkie and Gini are starters. I wonder if Blind can be played in this position, to support defense (with VVD and De Ligt behind him, drop back when VVD and De Ligt go forward) and have the pass to start attack from the back. We still have Koop, Gravenbech, Mo in addition to de Roon, Klaassen. Van De Beek for me as a sub for Gini. I don't like to have both starting.
Dumfries and Wijndal should be starter for RB, LB with VVD and De Ligt as CB. We need to have better options for RB, LB. Hateboer may play well for his club but his performance at NT has been disappointment. I really don't want to see him and Veltman anymore unless FDB can figure out how to improve his performance in NT.
I'm not a fan of FDB but I admit that he had a decent start. Perhaps he can grow into this job and do better. Stopped calling up Strootman is a good start. Hopefully he can gave young players more chance. He is not ideal but the timing works out for him.

The Golden Generation (born in1997-2002) is shaping up nicely... here's what I posted before for the future lineup.

This is the Make Oranje Champions Again (MOCA) team :p

All in the starting 11 already made their Senior appearances. More will follow, and hopefully provide a tight and healthy competition.

2022 seems to be a bit too early to peak, but 2024 and 2026 are going to be great years!!!

    Malen/Gakpo - Boadu - Malen/Bergwijn

    V.d. Beek/Ihattaren

    F. de Jong/Veerman - Koopmeiners/Gravenberch

    Wijndal/Bakker - Botman/Schuurs - De Ligt - Dumfries/Zeefuik

    Bijlow/Drommel

    Trending up (next to debut):
Gravenberch, Botman, Gakpo, Veerman, Bakker, Zeefuik

Trending down (still time to turn this around!):
    Dilrosun, Kluivert, Fosu-Mensah, V. d. Berg, Danjuma

Wildcards who can make a surprise leap, given the proper playing times:
Reis, Unuvar, Zirkzee, K.J Hoever, Pherai

In 2004, they will be in late 20's/early 30's, and can still be integral pieces:
Memphis, De Vrij, Ake, Klaassen, Vilhena

The future is as bright as Oranje, my friends!!

Missing Stengs in there, unless you have no faith in him of course. Other than that top post.

I'd like to see Bakker called up for the June friendly against Ukraine.
Lets see what he can do.
Even if he doesnt make it as a starter, he could be a valuable bench player

Great catch... looks like I had too much faith on Malen (listed twice). Lol  Bad typing error, Stengs is of course the future.

    Edited below.

    Malen/Gakpo - Boadu - Stengs/Bergwijn

    V.d. Beek/Ihattaren

    F. de Jong/Veerman - Koopmeiners/Gravenberch

    Wijndal/Bakker - Botman/Schuurs - De Ligt - Dumfries/Zeefuik
