    hello all,

i was curious how to keep that new sticky feeling to my daughter's keeper gloves?

we have tried stick-um and she doesn't think it really works.

    thanks

first, what gloves are they? if they are a cheaper glove, not much you can do. If they are a high end glove, then the quality of the foam should last longer. I spit on my gloves, as do most keepers. I find that to help keep them sticky, but do smell horrible over time.

Stick-um or any other kind of glue or compounds are a big no-no for gloves. These kinds of chemicals only damage the latex foam.

I find the best way to keep the grip on gloves in good condition is cleaning the gloves. Do not use any soaps or detergents as these will also damage the latex and shorten the lifespan of the gloves. A good rinsing is usually good enough. If there is a lot of dirt on the gloves use a glove wash, such as the reusch glove wash, http://www.soccer.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&N=4294960223+869&Product_Id=123647.

Allow the gloves to air dry. Do not ring the gloves. Do not attempt to dry the gloves with any kind of heat source. Using hot air can cause the latex foam to become brittle and not grip as well.

When wearing gloves, I like to keep a little bit of moisture on them. Moisture usually activates the grip. Be careful to not soak the gloves as they will just be slippery. During games, I keep a water bottle off to the side of the goal and will put a small amount of water on the palms of the gloves to keep them moist.

just keep them clean with water, even the glove wash is bad for the palms. although if the grip is bad enough that you are spraying stickem on them it is probably time to buy new ones.

if they are low end gloves you might wanna stay away from moistening during play, but if they are mid to high end definately keep them slightly moist.

Keeper Balm is a goalkeeper glove conditioner for every type and quality of gk glove. Even the thinnest, cheapest latex and the driest latex will imporve grip tremendously with this stuff. I use it on all of my gloves - new and old. https://keeperbalm.com

Keeper gloves will wear, its just the inevitable since keepers are always diving into wet grounds or rubbing the padding on turf fields.

What has worked well for me is wiping down the gloves with water after each use. This keeps them clean and makes them last longer. However, if your daughter's gloves are no longer sticky I would recommend:

    1) Purchasing a new pair (if you buy the low-end gloves they will not last very long ~6 months)
    2) Buying a slightly better pair (they tend to last longer).

I have had a good experience (considering the mid-range price) with these Renegades from Amazon, they come in various sizes: Renegades
