Real had 3 chances and they scored 3 goals. Atletico played better football, controlled the game, created a lot of good chances. But goals is the only thing that counts and that is why I love this game.

Agreed. When he's on he certainly is one of the best in the world, but when he's not...

So who has played better for their team than he has this season?

Casillas is a god. 12 saves & some were spectacular. Plus taking the ball off the toe of an attacker. If you don't think that is top drawer, then there is no hope for you.

I know Luxa is a tactical genius, but he did not really show it in this game. But what he has done is motivate the Brazilians. RC & Ronaldo were fantastic tonight. RC broke down the defense for the first goal & played great d all night. Ronaldo scored twice & stop the press, helped out on defense.

I would have pulled Beckham & Raul in the 60th minute, but then Raul made a great play to Solari for his goal. Arbeloa was nervous but played alright.

What a win. 3 shots, 3 goals. Lets hope RM is back for good.

Probably his assistant, watching the game with the crowd and giving him a different perspective.

Oooh today is going to be a good day isn't it? :D

Even the heathens are taking it easy today, saying such ludicrous things as Casillas not being the best in the galaxy. It's so ridiculous that ridiculous should be spelled incorrectly just to emphasis how ridiculous it is. I wonder how many times I would need to write ridiculous before I write at least one ridiculous incorrectly, a ridiculous amount surely.

that's correct, he said so in his comments to to the real madrid website postgame.

So, Lux surprised me a little by playing Solari in the middle instead of Zidane. Not Solari's usual position but he has played there before and perhaps Lux was thinking that Solari would offer more defensively in the middle.

The game started terribly for Real, with a botched backpass by Helguera nearly scoring an own goal, but Pavon was alert and got back in time to knock it away. From then on, Atletico really dominated the play. I can't believe how many times I thought Torres was sure to score and he either missed or it was saved by Casillas (if he isn't in the best keeper in the world, and I think he is, he's top three easily). Torres looked so dangerous, stealing the ball in the midfield/defense but just couldn't score. Gronkjaer also played pretty well for Atletico and certainly gave Arbeloa work to do in his liga debut, got in some good crosses, but again no finishing from Atletico.

Real Madrid - 3 shots on goal, 3 goals scored. :D That is the good news from this game. That, and this... [RESULT]Villareal 2 - Barcelona 0 at 65 min - if that result holds up we've closed the gap to 7 points[/RESULT]

Lux has work to do, and he said as much after the game. He wasn't pleased with the team's play and he's going to be working them hard in practice to get them to actually play the way he wants. He's only been in charge for a week so it's too early to really expect a revolution in the team's play, but thank God (Casillas) we've won and kept the momentum/positivity going so he can work with the team in an atmosphere of optimism.

Dammit, my eyes are hurting by checking to see if I wrote one badly.

    That makes me so
I'm going to check some of the scores from the other games, to see if possibly, just maybe, that can make me feel :D again.

yeah surely great day for any real madrid or valencia fan.. you won the bragging rights in the capital. 3-0 is a resounding win even if the scoreline is a little bit flattering.. athletico missed way too many chances, torres the biggest culprit, even so hey a win is a win so i will congratulate you guys.. valencia won yesterday and ac milan drew today and we crashed away 3-0, riquelme was killing us today.. damn , bad weekend.. we hope to pick up the pierces next week.
any way next week`s matches also look crunch for all of the top 3, we clash with unpredictable real sociedad side, while you are up against midtable zaragoza. che plays away to osasuna..

I also thought that he lost the ball in Solari"s goal. In fact, I thought it was a backpass by the defender.

Meanwhile, Solari was the difference in midfield. he was able to shield the ball with his bog body -- something that Zidane could not do this season. he was able to hold onto the ball longer.

On the first goal, he actually found Roberto carlos open that led to the cross. On the second goal, Solari probably did it by himself as stated above. The ball killed Athletico Madrid.

Well, well, well. Let's see what Luxemburgo is gonna do now. The 2 substitutes - Solari and Pavon were the 2 best players on the field, not counting the guy between the pipes. And I mean they were by far the best. Samuel could only dream to have played as well as Pavon did today. And Solari... Well, he was the best player at Real last season, he's proving he's one of the best now.
I assume Guti's stomach should be fine by the nest game. Next game in against Valladolid on TH and Zaragosa on Sunday. I assume we'll see Solari and Pavon in the game on Thursday, but interesting to see whether Luxemburgo would drop any of the regulars (Figo, Becks, Zidane, Guti) next Sunday in favor of Solari...

As far as the game... Well, we should thank whoever jinxed Torres. I mean he's a good player, but man, was he awful today! He should've scored at least a hat-trick without breaking a sweat, and I'm not even mentioning penalty, which he would have earned if he fell down in the first half.
So basically it ll came down to who's better at finishing. Real were amazing 3 for 3, Atletico (Torres) - 0-for-infinity.

I wonder if we'll see Pavon-Woodgate combination any time soon...
