He’s actually the third Yank on the team as Niko Häimäläinen is there as well. Häimäläinen is cap tied to Finland as of a few weeks ago.
Interesting that Kelman will initially join up with the U-23’s. I didn’t expect him to start getting first team minutes with QPR right off the bat as it takes times to acclimate but this kind of surprised me. It wasn’t clear but maybe it’s train with the first team and play u-23 matches. Whatever the case.... I don’t expect him to be there long. I think Kelman will make the jump fairly quickly.
Yeah, I haven't seen him play outside of highlight clips posted here, but I would have thought that getting over 1000 minutes in League One would have put him beyond the QPR U-23s, even if he wasn't in contention for serious minutes with the QPR first team right off the bat.
The Charlie Kelman transfer has been the hardest I've ever known to find out the price for. Well..... that didn't take long at all. Good to see him make the bench in short time. hopefully, he sees the pitch just as fast.
To be honest.... that's the best feeling. You don't any expectations. You don't get emotionally wrapped up in it. If Kelman pans out..... you are have this great sense of optimism by being pleasantly surprised. If he doesn't.... you have this oh well.... just another in a long line of flame outs.
Man oh man if only Chris Smalling was an American. Doesn't play soccer in an academy, but goes through Engalnd's school system. Latches on at Maidstone United at 18. Plays a little and instantly gets scouted. Goes from playing level 6/7 football at the age of 18 to a move to Middlesbourgh. Cancels his contract because of homesickness and moves to Fulham in summer of 2008 at 18. Makes his Premier League debut in May 2009 at 19. After just 13 appearances for Fulham gets bought by Manchester United for 10 plus million Pounds. Makes over 200 appearances at Manchester United. And now he plays for Roma. Kelman is so unpredictable because the path to him getting here is so unusual. I mean he (please correct me if I'm wrong) spent a substantial amount of time as a teenager in an MLS academy. Moves to a League One team, scores a wonder goal, and now is making a bench for a championship team right after moving... All at 18.
