seems unfair to expect the kids to carry the team, tho pax seemed capable of doing that.

I'll just add that the scheme that Luchi is employing in midfield having Acosta high to pressure and Ricuarte deep is dumb. What is Tessmann's exact role? One thing I've liked about Pareja and Luchi is playing whoever at that week or for that game is the best 11. Luchi seems to have drifted from that as Acosta just doesn't deserve it. He fouls way too much, his passes are usually bad especially in tight spaces and they had to invent a way to keep him on the field because he and Santos were too similar when playing the 8 and 6 together. It's like earlier in the year when Luchi couldn't figure out they looked terrible in the three back formation. Is Luchi one of those coaches who is too clever for his own good when we fans can see the simple solutions before he can?

I think that's part of it but also I think he "needs" vets to balance his kids. Problem is his vets other than Ricarte aren't good midfield on up. He seems completely unwilling to play Tessmann and Servania. Or trust Cerillo deep. His midfield is where it completely breaks down because Acosta is meh at best and Santos can't carry an offense. Ricarte tries but when he's inexplicably played deeper they can't coherently generate chances regularly.

Add to that Jara is bad. Don't care what he did in Liga MX, he's a poacher who needs multiple chances to score and Dallas can't provide that. I'd love for Luchi to say ******** it and put Ferriera or Pepi up top from the start with Sealy on wing and Tessmann and Servania behind Ricarte just to see what it looks like. More of the same isn't going to net better results because the pieces he's trying to fit don't mesh at all.

Acosta to my eyes has been one of the worst performers to get constant minutes in mls post Orlando

He thinks he’s better than he is, is my guess. Consistently trying cross field switches, long balls, outside of the boot stuff and it just rarely comes off. Bad player for the money.

If he’s a starter for Honduras I like our chances of an Adams, Mckennie, Reyna midfield bossing them.

Jara is a target forward. Great with his head.
Who's crossing the ball to him? Picault? Barrios? Reynolds is the best crosser of the ball on the team........................

It reminds me of when FCD had Blas Perez.

I do sorta wonder about the Acosta versus Servania battle.
Servania had COVID and also had some injuries earlier in the year.
[Kept him off of the U23 CONCAF Championships roster.]

But he should be ready to go.

I'm interested in the next lineup. FCD does have 6 games in two weeks (games on the 20th, 24th, 28th, 31st........then Nov 4th and 8th.). So I'm hopeful we're just seeing rotation. Next game could be Santos and Servania as opposed to Tessman and Acosta.

The problem I see is no suitable substitute for Ricuarte. He can't play every game. I wonder if Luchi will go back to the Ferreira experiment there...................

The only worry I have of him against them is injuring them. I have been surprised before though about how much better a player is with his country than FC Dallas. Watson comes to mind.

How bad has Dallas' offense been since the Covid break?

It's now been shutout in 8 of 16 games, has scored 1 goal in the past 4 games and is averaging 1.12 goals per game since play started back in August.

Fortunately for FCD, the defense has been as stout as the attack has been poor, allowing opponents to score 18 goals in 16 games for the same 1.12 average.

The data regarding what ails FCD is pretty straightforward.
Here's the passing chart from the first half against RSL.
There is virtually nothing going on in the attacking central midfield.
This is perhaps the area that Pomykal would be impacting.
Without him the squad is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too defensive.
I think Luchi is going to have to go back to Ferreira playing as a #10.
    They have to do something.

People can criticize Jara all they want. There's nobody playing the ball to him.
Ricuarte is jersey 10; where the hell is he playing? Tessmann is 15.

The action in the box with number 12...................is the left back. Ryan Hollingshead.
The other pass into the box is number 3. That's Reto Ziegler!!!

I think Quill will get a shot in MLS sooner rather than later. His task hasn't been easy with NTSC and the consensus is he's done a really good job. It's always difficult for a manager when you are told who has to play and in what position, especially players that don't train with you. He has handled that part of his job with flying colors and produced a good product.

The big question is how FC Dallas treats NTSC if this U23 league gets off the ground. Do the young Academy products play with the U23 or the USL side?

Another thing that has been talked about in football circles is that Quill seems to prefer a little different player profile than is normally produced by FCD. You can see with the players he has brought in, he likes a player with a bit of bite and toughness, which are qualities not always associated with FCD Academy players. Bringing in Nicky Hernandez changed their entire season and he was far and away their most consistent performer over the run in. Quill deserves credit for that.

Quill is a proven winner and has shown he is willing to do what it takes to get three points, which is really all that matters at the professional level.

The challenge with NTSC is this. His job isn't to win NTSC games. Its to be part of the development process that aids in the generation of FCD first team players (or to sell/trade/etc.). I don't care if Quill loses every NTSC game he coaches if he's doing the right things with regards to player development.

The same is true for all of these MLS reserve teams. One MLS reserve team made the playoffs in the USL championship and League One combined. Nobody cares and nobody should care. Philadelphia Union II was awful. So what?

So its a tough gig at all of these clubs. You have a different player pool each week (in non-COVID times) as players are down from the first team and up from the academy. And the goal isn't winning.

How many players that Quill has had under NTSC contract have been "promoted" to FCD first team contracts. How have they developed? Gibran Rayo? David Rodriguez? Brecc Evans? Imanol Almaguer? That's the question I have. Are these players improving? The only answer is Ricardo Pepi, who seemed destined for an FCD contract before he even signed the NTSC one. Oh, and Carlos Avilez I guess. 4th string keeper with the first team now.

You are correct, which is the exact reason why it will be interesting to see what the FCD model is for NTSC and U23. It doesn't matter what manager it is, anyone that has ambitions isn't going to want to be in a long term project that is simply about developing. If the U23 team is going to be treated as the development squad, FCD should employ a manager that is Academy oriented and understands his role. If NTSC is going to be the next step up and FCD wants them to compete for trophies, a true professional manager is probably needed.

The NTSC is more than likely a stepping stone job for a manager that has ambition. It isn't going to be a long term job for someone that want to take steps in their career.

As far as I'm concerned, NTSC and the U23 team are one and the same.
I believe that FCD solely wants to use their reserve team as an academy extension.

I don't see a future for NTSC in League One IF the club puts a U23 team in the new MLS U23 league.

My hope is that Quill has shown enough to get an opportunity up a rung in the ladder at a USL Championship club. These types of MLS reserve/U23 coaching gigs are simply stepping stones. And hopefully, shorter term stepping stones for the guys that perform well.

Let's not forget that Luchi had been named the NTSC coach for its inaugural season quitting his Academy Director role. This was prior to Pareja venturing to LigaMX Xolos and opening up the FCD manager spot. Tab Ramos wanted too much money and Luchi made a run for it. The rest is history.

Maybe Luchi didn't know what he was getting into with NTSC but the guy definitely had MLS aspirations. It's possible he thought of the NTSC assignment as a short term gig.

Now that the USL League One season is over, how quickly can the player under FCD contract there play with the first team. Do they have to quarantine for a particular set of time?

It seems that Ziegler is out due to being quarantined. Particularly at the CB position, it seems the depth there can be bolstered by Burgess and Che.
