Leganés head coach (manager) is José Luis Martí, who was Shibasaki's first head coach in Spain when he joined Tenerife in 2017. Leganés was coached last season by former Japan NT manager Javier Aguirre.
Hearing he left for free after all? Maybe the clause was real, just weird that he came back to training in Depo.
Gaku categorically denies reports that conversations with Moriyasu influenced his transfer. 1301968594411163648 is not a valid tweet id
Shibasaki made his first start for Leganes today, he had an assist from a nice chip pass which Sabin Moreno converted in the 23rd minute. 10 minutes later he was forced to leave the pitch as he went out iniured. There was no direct contact between him and any of the opponents players before he went on the floor and asked to be subbed, hence, I suppose he only pulled a muscle, which shall not keep him out of action for a long time.
Shibasaki had another assist today from a CK against Kagawa's former club Real Zaragoza. Eventually, the goal was the match's winner for Leganes. 2 assists in 6 matches (4 starts), a promising start compared to last season, considering he is starting more regularly and being trusted as a CKs and set-pieces taker. Moreover, his club is among promotion candidates, currently tied in the 4th position with 4 other teams, 4 points adrift Espanyol, the league leaders. Unlike Deportivo la Coruña who were struggling since the start of the last season.

Shibasaki scored in the league from an attack he started from the midfield, and ended it by sneaking behind the opposing defence to tap the ball into the net inside the 6 yards post. It will be great if he becomes more involved in such plays at both NT and club levels.
Shibasaki scored a goal yesterday. It is flying under the radar, but since moving to Leganes, Shibasaki is having his best form since moving to Spain. He has been very consistent (something which he genuinely lacked since the start of his career), and he is showing extreme willingness to sacrifice to serve the best interests of the team, play at whatever role he is assigned to and try to do his best (again, this was one of Shibasaki's main weaknesses since the start of his career). Many are complaining about Shibasaki being called-up to the NT, but they are not watching his performances in the last year. He is showing growth and maturity, which if combined with his skill-set he can provide great contribution to the NT. Highlights of the match:

Thanks for his good services when called up with the JNT. He had an ok time in Europe but nothing to be remembered despite 6 years spent in Spain. It's more than time for young japanese players to learn to prepare a career plan before establishing in Europe. You can't just pick an unknown 2nd division club and hope for the fairy tale to happen. Tenerife was surely a dream destination - for holidays - not for football. Thousands of kilometers separate the island from continental Spain. I still can't explain this choice. Same for Morita's first club btw. Luckily he got noticed.
