Pickford's tackle should have seen him sent off. Lunatic lunge. Van Dijk will be a big loss for everyone. I don't even think Liverpool can defend their league title without him. He's a bigger loss than Salah or Mane.

I liked De Boer as a player, but as a manager he was out of his depths at times (that was certainly the case in England).

    Pickford sucks.
    Absolutely disgraceful challenge.
Terrible situation for Virgil and Oranje

Gakpo really should be in there. Especially if you have Babel in there. Could it be because he tested positive for covid19?

I cannot wait until Babel is only an afterthought for the Dutch NT. Same for Strootman. I also don’t know what Vilhena is doing in there.

Other than that Donny is having a tough time at United, barely getting playing time. I’ve always wondered why they felt the need to sign him having both Fernandes and Pogba in their ranks. Seems like a bad decision to go there.

Ihattaren is going through an extended rough patch. He can’t seem to get into the form we saw him at last season. Admittedly, he’s ahd to adjust to many things including the passing of his father, a new coach and coming back from injury. We really need creative-type player like him though...

Nice to see van Aanholt back but a shame to see Veltman in there instead of Botman and Bakker is also getting overlooked for some reason. We are missing both of our starting CB’s unfortunately.

Well... I tried not to over-react with the provisional squad as it only made my blood pressure rising unnecessarily :confused:

There are the usual dead weights.... Babel, Strootman, Veltman, Vilhena, etc. And now there's a 30-year old completely washed-up LB in Van Aanholt. Who just, this past weekend, successfully completed his first 18 minutes in this new season (!!) Bravo. Oh BTW, the season started 7 weeks ago. How Bakker, who plays regularly, and made the French league's TotW today, not selected is really mind-boggling.

It's unfortunate that Gakpo got Covid. He missed/will miss valuable 2-3 weeks to prove his stock. As I've written before, I think he's making a strong push for Oranje, and he is awfully close to be invited. He can't be worse than Babel or Dilrosun.

Granted I only got to watch the first half of the PSV game, but I think it's fair to say that Mo Ihattaren is out of form. Maybe the injury, the mental state, the new manager, the confidence, the extra weight, the lack of quality in his teammates (PSV was severely depleted), or all of the above. He was very tentative, and lost some his silkiness and quick passing. Really bad situation. Hope he can pick up his form soon!

  7. One player who is in form is Haps, who has a very good offensive capacity and on top of that knows when to go or not.

Didn’t realize PVA was already 30 years old. Time sure flies by. For some reason I still thought of him as that exciting Chelsea talent. Shame he never really reached the heights predicted for him.

As far as Gakpo is concerned, I see no reason why he shouldn’t be in there when the likes of Babel and Dilrosun are. The former needs to just quit the NT already while the latter is lacking match fitness. Maybe de Boer ought to take off the Ajax blinders for a minute or two when making his selections.

Squad for this month's matches released. Few quick thoughts....

    - Schuurs demoted to U21 is atrocious, even with Van Dijk unavailable. CB's look weak. Sounds like FdB is counting to have Blind at the center, with another LB (Van Aanholt) included to accompany Wijndal. But why Van Aanholt, and not Bakker??

    - Klaassen is back. Midfield is jam-packed with Koopmeiners and Vilhena are also in contention for the complementary piece to Frenkie and Gini. And there's also V.d. Beek. Strootman (finally) fell off the squad.

    - Babel continues to ride his luck... with Boadu hasn't hit his rhythm yet.

    - Ihattaren is also included, in spite of he's still working on his form (and not quite deserving yet). Most likely a clean-up act to Lodeweges' stupid decision a while ago when he failed to cap-tie Mo, and showed him how important he is to the future Oranje.

    - Bijlow >> Bizot. Need a young GK for a succession planning.

-With VVD and De Ligt out, defense becomes the weakest comparing to midfields and forwards. It will not be a surprise if the results of the next 3 matches are not good. VVD will be greatly missed.
-Replacing Strootman with Klaassen? I don't know. Van De Beek is a better version than Klaassen but Van De Beek is not a starter either.
-Time to drop Babel as well.
-Has Vilhena played well enough to be recalled?

Klaassen is totally different now that he has moved to the DM position. I've bee quite surprised at how well he is playing at Ajax this season. At this point he is much better than Strootman and a different player than van de Beek.

    • It’s looking very dire indeed as far as CB’s go. Schuurs deserves to be in there imo. For some reason I’m more confident starting him at CB than Ake. Heck, what does Botman have to do to get a call-up these days? Even CL win against Milan isn’t enough...

    • As far as fullbacks go, it seems like no matter what Bakker does, he somehow gets overlooked. It’s getting ridiculous. PvA isn’t better than Bakker and is much older.

    • The depth in midfield quality-wise is dire. I’d rather have Gravenberch in there than Vilhena. I’d also give Joey Veerman a chance, he’s doing really good at Heerenveen this season.

    • At this point, Babel must have something on FdB for him to be selecting him over and over. With that being said, I wouldn’t have picked Promes either.

Hopefully Gakpo comes back and shows the same form he has prior to the positive testing. We also really need Boadu to get back into the form he was in last season.

If this is any consolation.... Speaking to Onsonranje, FdB singled out Botman, Bakker, and Gravenberch (along with already-called Ihattaren and Stengs) to be the young players knocking on the door and pushing for a place in the Netherlands squad. We shall see!

  14. He first needs to recover completely from his injury and regain fitness first.

He started for AZ in their last game and has also been selected for Jong Oranje. I assume that means he’s recovered from his injury. The fitness would be the next step.

Vilhena over Veerman is insane. Babel keeps getting selected for no reason. Kadioglu deserves a call up over Ihattaren at this point. So many questions to be answered and changes to be made. I’m hoping for De Light to come an rescue the defense. Let’s see

Reportedly, Cillessen is suffering a fresh muscle injury and could be out of the Dutch NT team. We may see Bijlow included after all!

I understand what you are saying but I never said that. I said that because he has already started for AZ and now selected for JO he has obviously recovered from his INJURY. Match fitness is the next logical step.

  20. Sorry if it read like criticism. It was ment as an addendum to the points mentioned.

Ihattraren, Bergwijn and Bijlow all have dropped out.

Ihattaren replaced by Dumfries, huh  No replacement for Bergwijn.

Danjuma should have been called up.

When will this circus end man.

You have bakker who is playing at the highest level and doesnt get selected.

And on the other hand you have an inform danjuma who is playing at championship (lower) level and also doesnt get selected.

What do you make out of this or in other wprds what do you have to do to get selected.

Bizot will start today, good to see a new change... he was unbeatable last season, but lately he’s been nothing but mediocre (though AZ defense isn’t exactly leakproof). We’ll see what he’s worth. He will be 30 next year, his upside is probably limited at this point. Hopefully we get to see Drommel, and other young GK (Bijlow) tested in near future.
