No need to apologize.... as you/others undoubtably know many parents read these forums and base their opinions off of what people from an anonymous forum say (which is ludicrous... but hell, I'm anonymous as well) before they actually go and investigate themselves...

I believe USYS as an organization has been the most fair with regards to being an open pyramid which is what we need... does Club v Club go against this, yes, in many ways. Will clubs be added/taken out as time goes by? We'll see. I'm all for competition but I believe you have to earn your way into the top tiers.

C v C was not bracketed weaker / stronger. They should randomize the schedule a bit more going forward. Some of the team don't belong, but the overall strength is there. They should consider a relegation A/B.

Chicago inter is having their way. With their new fields also, seems like they are doing something well.

I heard teams what have coaches that live in the city or players are the ones cancelling. It's a city of Chicago mandate so not understanding if that applies to all the burbs.

It looks like FC-United just sent out a communication to all players that it will now require masks for all players while they are training and playing scrimmages. Wonder if this is going to be a trend?

Yikes! that's going to be difficult. I just booked our hotel and car rental for 11/20 but I full anticipate that things get shut down because of the increase in cases. I get it.

COVID is picking up with a vengeance in IL/Chicago area. I work with the data on this daily. I don't have much confidence in any meaningful indoor play this winter the way things are trending.

I tend to agree. I am reluctant to sign up teams because I am not sure if I will get money back if the season is canceled because of covid.

Anyone know the rules regarding traveling to Indiana and playing 1 game and staying less than 24 hours. Is there still a quarantine required when living in North West suburbs?

There are no quarantine requirements outside of Cook County. And even if you live in Cook County, under 24 hours travel doesn’t require a quarantine either.

And IYSA has no problem with teams traveling either.

I really don’t understand the quarantine rules. Isn’t Illinois, by that definition, a “high incidence state?” And running at a higher rate than Indiana? Why have to quarantine when you go somewhere with less COVID?

That has not been the case for several months. Illinois was much lower than the surrounding states until very recently. Not sure what the numbers are for all of them now.

The per capita numbers were always worse for Illinois. And now, to put a state like West Virginia on the list... Illinois, Cook County and Chicago government is insufferable.

Agree, but then again I think the policy is a little hairbrained in general unless Illinois were to be sitting pretty with things nearly eradicated. Just think of the sheer volume of purely local interactions v. those of people who have been traveling. I support the masks and the distancing but the quarantining after travel has always been nonsensical. I think it’s more about publicizing how “well” Illinois (and Pritzker) are doing than anything else. Which is why we’re still requiring people to quarantine after returning from safer states.

They aren't "safer" in NWI where these teams keep traveling. Lowell has positives in the school and thats after the CX team quarantined + contacted students, KV is well over a hundred in quarantine, CP, MVille, Hobart, Portage are alllllllllllll positive with quarantines up to and over a 100.
Oh and because the people in lowellabama don't care, if a kid was quarantined for sitting next to a positive at lunch, they are still sending the siblings to school and parents are going to work...I called this shit and shocking I know, it played out. Thanks for helping keep my job in Indiana on the cusp of being shut down because you couldn't stand to not see little.johnny and his club play.

I agree that traveling to Indiana is silly and counter productive. What should be allowed is games to be played in IL. The cow patch fields in Indiana are causing injuries and their are some of the nicest grass and turf fields in the Midwest all over Chicagoland. Social distance is easy for soccer...and it’s relative low risk of transmission due to the constant movement.

I don’t think it’s just that us parents that want to watch our kids play. The kids really want to play. If you are at a bigger club you scrimmage lots of different teams but if you are at a smaller club there might not be any teams to play competitively. Just blowing teams out or getting blown out isn’t fun or helpful for anyone. It’s going to push participation in the sport way down.

traveling 60 miles to play a team that’s 5 miles away from your club on a terrible field in NW Indiana is stupid but if that’s all that kids are allowed I say keep going and mask up.

I dont know where you are getting this information. I dont know how you think a sport with heavy breathing, sweating, and physical contact for 90 minutes doesn't spread literally any airborne virus. I just....I cant comprehend how you ever came the that conclusion.

Let's quote the CDC on youth sports and transmission shall we?

Therefore, risk of COVID-19 spread can be different, depending on the type of activity.

    • Lowest Risk: Performing skill-building drills or conditioning at home, alone or with members of the same household
    • Increasing Risk: Team-based practice
    • More Risk: Within-team competition
    • Higher Risk: Full competition between teams from the same local geographic area (e.g., city or county)
    • Highest Risk: Full competition between teams from different geographic areas (e.g., outside county or state)

We are playing inter scrimmages 2-3 times a week. 2-3 training sessions and 1 game every other week in Indiana. We have had no cases. Eclipse has had 3 confirmed cases and I *heard* that Sockers may have shut down for 2 weeks as a result of 1 case - maybe someone at Sockers can confirm that.

Frankly I would be that's far less then what adults are getting at these rallies and other events.

I'd add that inter scrimmages IMO would bare no difference then if we played other clubs in state. In fact that would be safer I would argue. JB could have easily left management to the leagues and clubs...

    - Everyone wears masks - all the time.
    - No food or beverage at all.
    - One parent only at games and distancing must be honored.

Empower the refs to stop games if the rules are not followed.

We are esseintailly doing all of this at Home Depot, out to eat and at the Bank.

Our club has played over 200 games since July and not one case and no shut downs...

There's also been plenty of empirical research showing outdoor soccer doesn't lead to cases...

Finally - if the poster is trying to say that IL soccer teams are somehow causing the cases in northern IN, that's ridiculous. We come, play games almost exclusively against other IL teams and then leave.

I want to add that not having any cases is great but if a club has a few cases and they are able to shutdown in person for a period of time and get back that’s a win to. The assumption that zero cases is the only acceptable outcome isn’t realistic.

I really don’t think the risk is a lot worse between playing your own team and other teams. At some point the traveling to other states needs to be seen as a crappy alternative to just letting families stay local.

Statistics say that there has been at least on positive case. Every school, place of employment or other organization has had cases. Not saying that soccer is causing the virus to spread. Pretty much been proven that sports are not spreading the virus but athletes are getting it from other venues.
