not much else he could have done, but step on the ball in the corner, & play it back, on that one TO. But probably trying to make the most of his very limited opportunity.
I I don’t know if I’m being blind or overly optimistic, but I see it as a good sign that he’s getting on the field. Dude had a MAJOR injury - to the point, I didn’t even know if he’d ever play again. I think he’s still on course. But I agree. I’d have a hard talk with the coach at the winter break and say, “look if you plan on giving me garbage minutes throughout my contract, loan me out so I can get back to match fitness.”
I guess we can be thankful there are five subs this year, even if we aren't happy about the reason why.
700 minutes across all comps would be a good accomplishment for the season. No need to rush anything.
At least it looks like he hasn't lost any speed. I hope GB calls him for the November meet-n-greet event.
fast, hustles, makes great runs, puts in the work on defense. he has the right mentality. and he's highly skilled. all the panickers can chillax. he's good.
People have always liked to say he's raw because of the lack of experience. The above shows me that he has a lot to like. His off the ball movement is fantastic. That run at .29? It was begging to be answered with a through ball. Similar to Sargent, I think Weah looks better with our national team right now, than with his club team. Unlike Sargent, this isn't because of lack of quality in the team... But rather, Weah looks to be someone that does not to be ball dominant. He really isn't a dribbler, but rather someone that is always moving, passing, and trying to set things up. And that's ok. Really hope he can make his way at Lille, but I'm not anywhere near ready to write him off. It's very possible he's one of those guys that might contribute much better at the international level than club. His game is suited to it.
Anyone who has watched Weah knows this about him: He's extremely athletic He has a very high work rate and defends well He has a very good tactical sense in terms of making runs behind the defense He can exhibit some pretty amazing feats of skill on the dribble, passing or shot. His weakness is that his skillset has rarely manifested itself consistently moment to moment. He's not a strong finisher despite being able to cut in and hit a banger. He's not able to destroy people one on one despite being pretty good on the ball. He can make a brilliant pass but flub a first touch on the next play. The dude needs regular playing time. I think he's a better a long term bet than a few higher hyped players at Lille, but some of his competition is performing very well right now, and some of them were just really expensive.
that's more than okay...its perfect. pulisic and reyna are ball dominant types. players like Weah are great complements if the team wants to play and gel together. Im kinda in awe how this "golden generation" coming up for the US seems to be somehow perfectly fit together in terms of potential roles on the field...without much redundancy .
I'm looking forward to seeing a complete "golden Generation" play but I'm concerned of the backups. they are nowhere at the level of the first team, especially in midfield.
Aaronson looks to me like a CAM backup for Reyna, since I have Reyna at that position. Morris and Weah play the same position. Don’t know who the DM backups would be for Adam’s and WM.
I agree 100% The thing I’d add is that it looks like Aaronson will be the first offensive sub off the bench. He seems like the kind of guy who I want to inject some energy into the team. DM is still a mystery. Nagbe is whatever - although he should be our most reliable #8. Meanwhile, Morales had the bite to be a good back up, but I don’t even know how he’s doing. Maybe James Sands or Johnny Cardoso? But both have work to do.
Agree with this. If Weah is the “worst” attacker we have out there, we’re in some serious business. Even though he isn’t ball dominant, he still plays solid 1-2 touch, and he’s got some magic in the final third. Excited for him
I think Aaronson will make the team. I'm not sold on him being the backup at ACM. I see him more of an attacking 8. I think Uly would make a better ACM, he has way more moves than Aaronson to break defenses. For the CDM, I had my eye on Jens Cajuste but he laid an egg yesterday in his first Champions League game. He is nowhere ready for MNT duty if he switches. So, who is next? Cappis? Parks? Sands? or maybe Otosawie? I like KDLF as a winger but what happens if Barca makes him a LB?
The short, snarky answer is: Who cares where he plays for Barcelona? David Alaba has played as a center mid for Austria for the better part of a decade despite being one of the best left backs in the world. If Konrad as a winger makes the US better than Konrad as a fullback, you play him as a winger.
Even though we have a glut of wingers? Wingers are probably our strongest position. I suppose we need to see where he is the strongest.
