https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/jevh98/zenit_11_club_brugge_ethan_horvath_og_74_american/ some interesting comments
Royal Francs Borains He played them 9/25 of last year and they were in the 3rd tier of Belgian football so I'd wager it wasn't a quality opponent from what he was used to.
Have you been following this thread at all? If Mignolet is fit then Horvath is nailed to the bench - for any and every competition.
Mix of Club Brugge fans giving him respect and trolls saying the OG proves Americans should never try to play football
Intense emotions after the game... We're proud of you, Ethan! 💙🖤 #ZenClu #UCL pic.twitter.com/vyHciHrvCF— Club Brugge KV (@ClubBrugge) October 21, 2020
Assume you're referring to this: Intense emotions after the game... We're proud of you, Ethan! 💙🖤 #ZenClu #UCL pic.twitter.com/vyHciHrvCF— Club Brugge KV (@ClubBrugge) October 21, 2020 He definitely sounds like someone who's been abroad for a long time and doesn't spend very much/any time speaking English in his day to day. Also, his teammates apparently call him "America Boy"??
From the club's official account, no less. Everyone's a hero when you're winning and all that, but this is a step beyond what was necessary or beneficial for them to do. And his comments about "not underestimating Bruges" and how happy he was to do something for the team/club suggest that any resentment is in the past. Unless a great offer comes in for him, he'll be staying until June. Whether that's a good thing or not (and it's not IMO) he's accepted the situation and is on board until the end of his contract.
In the Reddit thread, the Brugge supporters are saying the club is trying to extend him -- even though Mignolet is apparently signed through 2025. Hopefully he doesn't take it.
No one agrees with you more than me, but can we please not derail this very nice conversation about Ethan and his Dutch-Norwegian-Coloradoan accent??? Every time someone brings up politics it turns into a shit show. Let's not make more work for the mods.
agreed, lets get back to the weird kind of stockholm syndrome for horvath where he would consider extending with brugge despite mignolet being there until 2025, let alone why a club would even do that to a player they professed to like
Reminds me of how Brad Friedel no longer sounds like he is from Ohio. However, since being back in the States for a while now I think his accent has transitioned back a bit. Interesting how this works for some people.
I can't imagine he's even considering it. Happy to the club to say "we really want to do this", so they look better with their fan base when Ethan walks away on a free (imagine the money they could have gotten after his Europe run . . .). Looks like a charade to me.
If you think our films and history is bad, you should watch European films and read European history.
