I don’t really want to get drawn into a battle over this point, only wanted to note that there are questions. To be clear (because I guarantee someone is going to say I am arguing this when I am not) I am only highlighting the questions.

“...Moukoko is pictured alongside his 18-year-old girlfriend, who plays for St Pauli's Under-21 team in Hamburg, where the couple met.

Bild said his 66-year-old father and his mother, 28, still live in Hamburg while Moukoko lodges with a family in Dortmund...”.

So parent wise, if his dad is 66 and his mom 28 at the time of this article then that would mean his mom was approx 16 when YM was conceived.

This is coincidentally (or not) depending on your view, the age of consent in German for sex with someone over 21 (although it appears this require a complaining party).

“...The age of consent in Germany is 14, as long as a person over the age of 21 does not exploit a 14- to 15-year-old person's lack of capacity for sexual self-determination, in which case a conviction of an individual over the age of 21 requires a complaint from the younger individual; being over 21 and engaging in sexual relations with a minor of that age does not constitute an offense by itself. Otherwise the age of consent is 16”.

Same math applies to him and his girlfriend, is she is 18 and he is 12 that is not allowed I’d there is any kind of contact I imagine.

However if I have this wrong, I’m sure Taylor or one of the other residents of Germany can tell me I’m wrong.

It appears from this article that Bild had some of the same questions to the tone of a cover story about it.

Even the u23 coach of Dortmund acknowledges that the age is probably wrong though not by much.

It won't matter once he joins the first team. If he's good enough, he's good enough, whether he's 16 or 26.

Actually, it does matter. If he's 15, he's got several years of growth as a player and as a man before he hits his peak. If he's 17, not so much.

How dominant would, say, Reyna be if he was playing U-16 right now.

I can think of Kane and Son. Maybe I should elaborate and say Dortmund potentially have Europe's best attack.

You are both right. His point is that if he's good enough he's good enough.

Your argument is that knowing his age to be correct means a lot in projecting the type of level he can play at based on his performance once he is able to play in the Bundesliga.

Gio with a 2.5 Kicker performance against Hoffenheim, which was tied for highest on the field. . (1 best, 6 worst) Someone else posted he was second worst on the team (field?) based on whoscored (stat based). So, he must be impressing some folks with the little things that stats do not catch.

It is interesting that Sancho got a Kicker 4 but on whoscored was rated better than Gio. My take is that with subjective rating you are considering the kid is 17 and so things he's doing that are beyond his years tend to inflate the rating.

I'm glad we established that Kicker is the ultimate authority on these matters.

My eye test from watching the game was that Sancho was poor, Gio was better, and the Kicker ratings look about right.

Yeah from these highlights, Sancho didn't do much and the one time he lobbed the ball softly at the keepr from close range probably inflated his whoscored score as a "shot on goal" while what he really did was waste a good chance.

The best part is how sure he was of himself and how absolutely wrong everyone else in this thread was.

I only like kicker when they rate out boys high. Otherwise, they are a biased bunch of coots who don’t know jack about soccer!

Whoscored is not stat based, that is a myth. The overall ratings are subjective and provided by a member of the whoscored staff. It is guided by the numbers but it is not an algorithm.

American Soccer Analysis has an algorithm based rating system called goals added or G+. It’s only available for MLS right now but it would be cool to expand it.

This explanation from Whoscored sure makes it sound like it’s an automated score: https://www.whoscored.com/Explanations.

I underestimated kicker inflation when it comes to hype. I created a kicker rating thread because this exact thing happened when pulisic had a bad game with bvb.

Take a deep breath and recognize that it's ok to critically review players instead of say mmerica, flux yeah!
