Mayoral’s dumbassery aside this confirms the rumors that the club was trying to offload Jovic. And Zizou wanted to keep Mayoral. Jesus!!! Seems like nobody at the club has any confidence in jovic. If hazard wasn’t taking the cake (no pun intended) of the worst RM transfer in history we would be talking about this. What a disaster of a transfer. Also I’m very surprised that no team wanted to take Jovic on loan for the 2 weeks or so he was on the market. Truly bizarre.
They might think Jovic isn't Real Madrid starter material but still worth a lot to a 1b tier club and so want to get something out of him. Mayoral, on the other hand, isn't gong to bring in a big fee, but they might also see him as someone who is a natural big club backup and is going to be someone they're willing to sit behind Benzema without worrying that they're ruining his value.
Stupid by Mayoral, but nothing that we didn't knew. Zidane didnt want jovic from the beginning and was forced to leave him in the club. Total moral boost for a player, but honestly, I'm sure jovic already knew it. What's worried in all this that zidane really think benz, Vinnie and the fat dude can deliver all the goals we need.
I was just considering his right to "redress" without fear of retalliation, didn't think it was so controversial.
Fierro ran out of money to keep his doninatrix on his payroll. That’s the only explanation for why he comes on to bigsoccer to regularly post the stupidest take he can think of, so that he can get virtually whipped by the rest of the forum. He’s sitting there posting about how Mayoral did a positive thing by tapping his mouth to the press about the guy who decides his immediate future. “Oh, yes 4x4s, INFRACT ME, tell me I’ve broken the ToS!!”
That's probable and makes sense from one angle, but in my opinion, we are Madrid and still trying to win trophies, transition year or not, Mayoral offers nothing, as a starter or a backup for a big club, i can see Mariano in that role but i can't remember Mayoral producing much of anything anywhere he's been if the plan is just to sit someone behind Benz ( which i think is a flawed plan at this time for a club of our size and the trophies we are trying to win, he's not 25) then at least that player should be able to come on and maybe change the game, score some goals, produce something maybe we know Mariano can do a half decent job, sounds like keeping Mayoral would be just for the sake of it, seems like management thinks Benz is superman, ( always available to play every game) if that was their thinking, if we don't have Benz we then have to rely on Mayoral?, at Madrid? meh.
Doesn’t this bust the narrative that Zidane asked for jovic to be signed? Not that it matters but when we do our whining about Benzema dependency maybe we can cut the club some slack for trying to sign strikers.
Could be that. Could be he thinks he won't get much playing time and it is a waste of wages and potential transfer fee to keep him. Could also be the effect on morale and team chemistry with the constant questions about why he is benching the new, young, expensive transfer. Lots of possible reasons other than Mayoral > Jovic.
I think its pretty obvious that Mayoral wants out so bad that he's willing to burn his bridges to get there and possibly thinks the best or only way out is this way. I'm not sure how this is even disrespectful to Zidane or the club we speculated as much all summer but obviously the club couldn't tip its hand in the middle of negotiations. If thats all over and the truth comes out, I'm not blaming Mayoral for telling the truth, I dont believe he "owes" neverending unconditional loyalty to the club.
It's not disrespectful to Zidane or the club, it's really disrespectful to his former teammate and it shows poorly on him. He never looked like the sharpest tool in the shed, even on the pitch.
Of course I can’t find the link now, can’t recall if it was Marca English or another site. It wasn’t earth shattering just him clarifying that he talked to Zidane and the club about his situation, but that those discussions didn’t include if or how that impacted Jovic or anyone else at the club.
As far as I know he didn't walk back any comment. He clearly mentioned Jovic in his Roma presentation. He did say yesterday that he regrets it and that he should keep his mouth closed about internal club operations in the future. I think whoever believed Jovic was Zidane's choice is wrong. Zidane wants one guy, and that's Mbappe.
Today he said he asked for Jovic last year. It's not that ridiculous to believe he just didn't like what he saw from him last season, probably more in training than games since he didn't get many.
I wonder if we’ll sell Jovic next summer to fuel Mbappe’s purchase, that final 50-60m would massively help to get the deal done.
If he doesn't produce up till that time, and it ends with us having to sell him, we won't recoup all of that fee, not after two nothing seasons
I have no information that what I described was the case. I was just explaining how it might make sense that Madrid would have sold Jovic and kept Mayoral even if Jovic was the better player.
I'd like to see Mbappe and Camavinga in the summer. Jadon and Upamecano the next season. Any strikers come to mind? The only one I genuinely like is Harry Kane but he's never coming here.
