None of us are disrespecting Denmark mate. We didn’t expect an easy game at all.

Just disappointed in the choice of tactics and personnel by our own manager.

Yeah, was about to post this. From the article, I don’t think anyone is saying he’s not great at blooding the youngsters, that’s not the issue, so sure he’s being bold there and he comments about how well we have done over the past few seasons getting to two semi finals and even during the World Cup playing 5-3-1-1 ( from memory ) with more attack minded midfielders in Alli and Lingard and yes we had some success and played some really good stuff and he got the fans back on his side and even pulled back fans who had turned their backs on International football. So why now is he changing his whole philosophy and playing a system that frankly is uninspiring, dull and loses our creativity. Things only need tweaking here and there, not a complete reform of the tactics imo.

Spot on Marcho! Even now, I don’t want to see Southgate leave - just be a bit more adventurous and experiment.

I don't mind the three at the back.

However. You can't have 2 defensive midfielders and you need to select attacking wing backs

    Maybe Chilwell will help

What I find mind boggling is that an England fan can be happy about what’s going on with England, sure he had a good world Cup but mostly because of a very easy draw let’s be honest. He has done good things nobody denies it, very good PR, but nobody should be happy about the way he’s wasting our attacking talents. We didn’t play well against the Danes, we made them look more technical than us, and we didn’t play well against Belgium in spite of an incredibly lucky result. He can still admit that he’s been plain wrong and then I’ll forgive him immediately and back him, but if he sticks with this system we Will be an embarrassment. There’s not one single super defensive England team that has done well in the past.

I’d agree with just about every word plus add that I’ll never understand why Jack Grealish hasn’t featured after his performances against a formidable Liverpool team and then for England .

Same applies to playing a back three but not playing Coady .

I genuinely think that cheated penalty by Henderson and Mount’s fortunate deflected goal saved Southgate’s skin .

Had we lost e last two with those performances this would be a whole different story . The Belgium game should’ve been a poor defeat rather than being hailed as a win against the best team in the world ( joke ) .

The FA will not fire Southgate before the end of our tournament run. We could be awful in every game from now until then and he would still be safe.

Woah, hang on. We made them look more technical than us when we went down to 10 men but we STILL looked like we might get something from the game even then.

Not really ... we got lucky and a loss plus poor performance is suddenly an impressive win against the worlds best team (apparently) .

You make good points but it gets lost in your constant repeating about certain

Yes indeed. We had more physical impact but didn’t have one single player in the middle to carry the ball or pass forward, while 2 or 3 or them could do it.

Our next squad will be telling. Im praying he doesn't call up maguire. If he does it will be a disgrace. Hopefully Greenwood and foden get a recall along with maddison and grealish. Those are four players who can make a difference. Reece james also deserves another call up despite his red card. Pickford maguire should be dropped

Apologies... it’s just part of my personality .. kinda obsessive..

Plus I’d imagine that many will just be dropping in now and again and not be reading every single comment along throughout the thread .

If the theory that is circulating is correct then Reece James should be fine as he’s a child of the system .. under 18’s , under 21’s etc

How can you play five defenders and two DM’s in a system and then take issue with being accused of being cautious? He’s obviously being accused of being cautious tactically and with personnel within the system.

So to start talking about goals scored ages ago against Panama or playing youngsters is just laughable. You could brush this off as just being slightly sensitive but after watching Southgate in numerous games claim we played the ball really well or looked great when we didn’t. I begin to think he doesn’t feel this system is too defensive and he believes we are creating enough in the system.

How many of those guys are regulars. To put Barcelona in when the guy hardly ever figures for them is ridiculous. In not knocking Denmark. They're an average team who have done brilliantly over the years with such limited players. Well done

Yeah I’ve heard about this theory and sure I’m guessing it helps to know the players that you are familiar with but it just means late developers who may hit form later, which happens are at a disadvantage which is totally ridiculous and just cutting off your nose to spite your face. Might explain why Vardy called time in his career early.

Well, both I and pretty much all of football Denmark agree that there should not have been a penalty and also have trouble understanding why Grealish was not playing, otherwise the new Danish coach is getting blamed for only trying to keep a 1-0 result when playing 11 against 10, so I would not really call the win deserved, but on the other hand, If Denmark had some luck on their side in this away game, England also had a bit of luck against Belgium and in the away game in Denmark, so all in all, there is not much to say about the results in games were it is going to be close and just one or two mistake will be decisive. One thing is for sure, Schmeichel is usually the one who makes the difference for Denmark in games like this.

The disrespect shown towards the Danes is, unfortunately, not surprising, it's one of the reasons why so many fans from other nations can't stand the English (their dismissive nature of other national teams that's almost scorn!). Anybody with half a brain knows about their recent international record. Also people seem to forget that for more than half that game England only had ten men! This makes a MASSIVE difference, I think it would have been a very different game if Maguire hadn't pressed the self destruct button! Oh and on a side note that was never a penalty in a million years! :-D
