We'll have to live with this for 2 weeks but maybe the players need this stewing, too. I'll put this down to arrogance.

I have to teach trigonometry tomorrow with a raging hangover. Fortunately, I know the bloody topic inside out including the mathematical jokes.

They needed the away fans today to at least show some pride.

It is definitely a warning sign. I felt in preseason that this team needed freshening up . Jota and Thiago will help but its disturbing how easily we were beaten today by Villa.

It's definitely got to be part of their gameplan... whether or not they are fouls or not, they were physical all day in challenges and there was little Liverpool response. Just got bullied and beaten up. These are the matches they bought Thiago for, to retain control after a moment (or two or three) of sloppiness and surprise.

Got the most interesting derby in a long time after the break... the first of frankly a real, real rough run of fixtures. Big test for this squad, to see if they have what it takes this season, if they're up for it. Playtime is over.

What odds, I wonder, prior to kickoff, of 7-2? There’d be a few commas in those numbers, I’d wager.

Class from Klopp post match where he basically said
    "Well done Villa,completely deserved"

"We were second best all night long"

"They're still my Boys,Well Learn from it"

Were Champions and just brush this off & come back harder. No one's getting to 90 points in current form anyway.

Also,VVD with pretty much the same in his presser. They were baiting him to say "The Sky is falling" and he just mirrored Klopp in thoughts.

Also said something very pertinent,He said "We travel for the international break and hopefully don't contract coronavirus when we come back!!!!!"....Mane just went down with Covid and they're human beings FFS.I'm sure that was playing on their minds as well and .......LETS MOVE ON.

Firmino really needs to step up his game. He is giving the ball away a lot and there has been a noticeable drop in energy or is it just me?

If only we had a midfielder who could stride through all that chippy grabbing and shoulder-to-shoulder stuff. If only we had someone like Marko Grujic.

    Oh, wait!

    Absolutely.He was piss poor today.

Yes I know what Bobby is to our System,18 premiership games without a goal is definitely worrisome.

well that was a total shitshow. I think I'll re-watch the Trump-Biden debate to make me feel better.

but apart from the fact we were deplorable in defence ...
    - a goalie brain fart
    - a disgraceful no-pen call when Mo got mugged
    - offsides that weren't given
    - deflection after deflection that went in
    - adding up to a season's worth of shit luck and bad play all in one game.

    ..... it wasn't that bad.

They weren't offside, otherwise they would've been given. Apart from that, I agree with the rest of your post.

Plus, if that doesn't get them fired up for the derby, after that game, then nothing will.

We should have Mané, Thiago and Henderson back too.

    1. Missing two key players.
    2. Villa played very well.
    3. Gifted them the first goal.
    4. We didn't convert our chances.
    5. We were very sloppy in defence.
    6. Terrible luck with three big deflections and penalty not given.

Put that all together into the same game and it was not going to end well.

    On the plus side:
    a. Despite 1-6 all going wrong, it only cost us 3 points.
    b. Jota looked good.

Lastly, I understand why we play a high line in open play but not so much when defending a free kick.

Yes, Henderson is also important. But we have a choice of able replacements. The midfield of Fabinho/Keita/Wijnaldum should be competitive against any team.

However, Alisson has no comparable replacement.

Even though Jota played well, there is no substitute for Mane when he is on form.

I wonder if the 2-week break might help us. the players who travel for their NT will have a change of focus, and Klopp and the coaches can take their time figuring out what if any tactics need to be addressed. I hope that's the case.

the Bitters game could not have come at a worse time. or maybe a better time?

Couldn't watch this due to work, so I'm one of the fortunate ones. Well, congratulations to Klopp and the team, worst game loss of the modern era or something like that, guess they're going for all the records. A lot of rationalizing on the board, crazy deflections, poor officiating, etc but a number of players bottled it big time yesterday.
I'd be fine with shaking things up, maybe we aren't the finished product we thought we were. Don't worry about another title this year, bench the first teamers who can no longer put in the drive and work, promote second teamers / kids and make plans to really freshen things up. Just a thought. This result was unacceptable at any level. And to be clear, I don't give a sh*t about the embarrassing scoreline or the dropped points. It was the quality of effort and play that offended. Very disturbing.

Dean Smith clearly had a plan for Villa and they played it to perfection. We looked second best all over the pitch from the first minute. I think it's too early to say whether or not our system has been 'found out ' as they say but it is concerning that the team was unable to adapt yesterday and put up a better effort.
