Loyal was up 3-1 at halftime in an absolute must-win match. I was coming here to post that in the non-Rapids related thread. Standing ovation for LD and the Loyal.
With the Portland game postponed the Rapids will now play every Wednesday and weekend from 10/7 to 11/8, 10 games in 32 days.
Depth is going to be tested. Tested to the max. Crucial stretch run of the season, too. We are going to find out real quick how good Fraser is as well as how good this team is. It excites me but also scares the hell out of me. With so many games in quick succession there's going to be very few days of training to "correct" any issues that might arise. Fraser, staff, and players will have to adjust on the fly. This is way tougher than being in the bubble. Let's just hope this latest round of COVID passes and everyone has a clean bill of health.
This is when it’s nice to have a young roster. That’s a high school schedule. Now we just need to get over this Covid streak. That will suck out an ability to recuperate.
Interesting take on why the expanded playoffs are fair given the Rapids situation with COVID. Basically, they are saying the lost games make it "fair" that we would or would not make a normal playoffs. The article considers either tough makeup schedule or dropping altogether as the rationale for having 4 additional games and attempts to analyze why 4 is the right number. I found the analysis a bit weak, but the concept is certainly intriguing. Essentially, if we don't make the expanded playoffs, we can't complain. And if we do, we can consider it as though making it during a 'normal' season given the turbulence. Rod.
Sorry, forgot to attach. https://www.forbes.com/sites/ianqui...ter-shows-why-mls-had-to-expand-the-playoffs/
Can't trust a Duck to do anything right... I find this a flimsy argument. Going to try to check some numbers tonight but I think suggesting a team currently above the 2019 Bodmer Line wouldn't make the playoffs normally if they fail to make the expanded playoffs due to fixture congestion is a stretch.
The Phoenix Rising coach has been put on administrative leave, though supposedly not due to this issue (right). The most likely person to step in to his role while he's on leave is their Director of Soccer Operations, Steve Cooke.
Two more staff members have tested positive. Players went through individual training yesterday, still no team training since last Thursday. Update on the Colorado Rapids’ developing COVID-19 situation: pic.twitter.com/iYYeivgNfr— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) October 3, 2020
I'll say again this is embarrassing. With that many staff members testing positive, they almost surely screwed something up. It jeopardizes the season as the postponements mean the fixture congestion gets even worse. If it started with the staff and spread to the players, they've put players' careers as risk as well. The club needs to show the "Rapids Way" is NOT incompetence, but it's hard to draw any other conclusion.
As an MD, there is a segment of the population that thinks masks are silly, as they know the world is flat, and reject the 1,000 year old 'germ theory'. How/why this became a political issue just sickens me. Folks in the RFO likely all said 'we are OK' and spread the virus. Kinda' like High School, "We don't need a condom." I hope MLS follows the NFL and fines them. BTW wearing a seat belt only works for cautious drivers. Driving Drunk is OK, too, because I never got in a wreck before? Oh, and since you cannot feel radiation, it is OK, too. R
Returning to play wednesday? It seems like a very tall order for Colorado to play Wednesday. They'll only have trained twice after being off for 10 days.Brutal situation all around, though. Club has had 4 players and 12 staffers test positive since Sept. 24. No open dates left on their schedule, either.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) October 5, 2020
If we do, it'll be an immediate test of the team's depth, as I assume the 4 players that tested positive are all still in quarantine.
I believe we have played games with more than 4 players away on "international Duty/ call-ups" so I am a bit baffled on why they cancelled additional games from the first one causing this crazy schedule through end of season.
I think it was more of a precaution to make sure that the other players/staff didn't also come back with positive tests. I can't imagine the fallout for the club it they showed up in Portland or wherever and had several positive tests come back in during the pre-game testing - or even the day after testing. Probably just trying to make sure that as few dominos as possible drop and to do a bit of CYA (cover your @##) This upcoming schedule is going to suck for the players though. That's for sure. Although, if you want to look at the bright side, the 4 players who will be quarantined are going to have plenty of rest and when they come back into the rotation can provide some much needed fresh legs!
Update: We have taken the decision to delay the return of fans to the stadium out of an abundance of caution. This will impact the two upcoming home matches on 10/7 and 10/10.More information ⤵️— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) October 5, 2020
"Bring. It. On" 1313591879963996161 is not a valid tweet id Every single one of these games are extremely important. Every single game is against a western conference opponent. Sure, 8 teams make it into the playoffs, but we have a tough road to hoe ahead. The Rapids are currently in 7th place, with a +5 GD, and have a 1.46ppg average LAFC - HOME 5th place +5 GD 1.07ppg LA Gals - HOME 12th place -6 GD 1.07ppg Seattle - AWAY 1st place +19 GD 1.93ppg FSL - HOME 8th place -4 GD 1.2ppg SKC - HOME 3rd place +5 GD 1.64ppg SKC - AWAY 3rd place +5 GD 1.64ppg Minnesota - AWAY 4th place +5 GD 1.47ppg Seattle - HOME 1st place +19 GD 1.93ppg Portland - AWAY 2nd place +3 GD 1.71ppg HOUSTON - AWAY 10th place -4 GD 1.07ppg It's not going to be an easy finish to the season. That's for sure! Hopefully our run of form lately doesn't take too much of a hit with the delays and breaks we've had to have because of the COVID tests.....Also hopefully everyone has been staying fit and working on their stamina because as mentioned before, we play every Wednesday/Saturday until the end of the season. Let's go get em boys!
