Obviously because he's only 20 it's too early to say but if the past 4 years are an indication he is on track for this sadly. Always hope for him to turn it around!
I realized only about a week or two ago that I had it wrong. I've been spelling it wrong for a long time, as well.
I'm not anti-Aaronson, but I rate Pomykal's talent a lot higher. He hasn't put it all together yet, but I only see Aaronson as turning into the better player if Pomykal doesn't put it all together.
I thought in the early days Pomykal played like a typical #10, but then he played more and more like a #8, with more safe connections than risky movements or passes forward. Aaronson described himself a combine of #8 and #10 but he fit quite well in advanced field at Philly, sparks at final play very well. Pomykal to me is a very complete player, but Aaronson has some real special technical traits such as his shoulder check and turns after first touch. I don't like the absolute potential score comparison, unless they really have tier difference, since I don't see two youngsters have clear gap.
First he has to get healthy. If he gets healthy, he needs to stay healthy for at least a season imo. Assuming he gets healthy and he does well, a Euro team will take a chance on him for the right price. FCD seem to have already made the commitment to Pomykal to provide that path. Hopefully they do so...even if it may mean they have to take a relatively small fee. (based upon what they have been doing, I would expect a small fee with sell on fees). He is a big enough talent that I am sure he can get a team to take a chance on him for the right price.
With his injury I think any Euro team is going to need to see him healthy for an extended period of time. The kid has had surgery on both knees, and now two major abdominal surgeries. He's had an ankle problem, the list goes on. Would FCD sell Pomykal? Sure. They just sold Cannon for a reasonable fee right after he'd signed a contract extension. They sold Richards before he'd ever played a game for them. I just think there should be a healthy amount of skepticism amongst the clubs that were previously interested in Pax. Pomykal, when healthy, is the more "complete player" when compared to Aaronson. The type of midfielder that he is...................is highly sought after in Europe. I don't think its an accident that Aaronson was played more as a #8 recently by Philly in a game. European suitors will want to see if he can play that role.
From the inbox: Minnesota United announced today the club acquired $150,000 in 2020 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $450,000 in 2021 GAM and a 2021 second round MLS SuperDraft pick via trade from Montreal Impact for forward Mason Toye. Additionally, Minnesota will retain a percentage of any future transfer fee on Toye.
Nice. Montreal doesn't have a real CF; hopefully Toye will get the time his potential deserves. If playing for Thierry Henry doesn't come with some kind of breakthrough, it's probably not happening.
What is even a "reasonable" fee for Pomykal? At this point, he's an afterthought for everybody till he gets and stays healthy. Good for Toye. He deserves to start.
I'd say a lower initial offer with a higher sell on. I wonder if he was over used as a youth. Will there someday be a rule like in baseball where young pitchers have pitch limits in games? Like a minutes or game limit when young?
Toye didn't deserve to start. He faded last season & when he's gotten opportunities this season for the most part he's blown them. He has 2 goals & 0 assists in almost 500 minutes. And he's been a poor target. Needs to make better runs & quicker decisions. Kind of shown to be a space-case. Hopefully this is a wake-up call. On paper Henry could provide him tutelage, but that's no automatic. I don't know of any track record of him nurturing young strikers. Montreal has Urruti & Quito. Hoping to catch lightning in a bottle here I guess. I'm ambivalent on having a reason to watch the non-Toronto Canadian clubs. Ideally at this pt they'd go to the CPL. Toronto would be MLS' Swansea/Cardiff.
Pomykal's "sauce," for me, is the frequency in which he seems to be able to make not just an acceptable or good play but actually the best possible play, even in places where you might not be looking for it. There's a play that comes hazily to mind from the U20s where he was racing an opponent for a loose ball in our half facing the U.S. goal, and he not only recovered it and played it play it safety to a teammate to end the danger, but found someone who was on the move, setting up an attack, without doing anything particularly fancy; it was just a really perceptive, thoughtful choice a lot of other guys wouldn't' have seen or tried. (I probably have some parts of that memory wrong, but hopefully at least this illustrates what I'm trying to describe...) I found his ability to do that astounding in the context of young American players. If his body holds up and he can keep doing it often enough, he could play at almost any level. I have no idea if that's what's going to happen, of course.
I agree...the only question is how long. basically it comes down t risk/reward adn the shorter time he has healthy the higher risk which than has to be balanced with low price. Similar in man ways to the typical US player heading to Europe...teams willing to take a shot if free or very cheap. Right now, he might even be able to find a team but the catch is that he would have to be free or close to it...transfer fee and salary would both be extremely low. No upside for Pomykal or FCD. A full year of good health may or may not be enough to shift the balance so that both sides could find value out of a move. maybe you are right and it would take more than 1 year...maybe 1 complete year and leave following summer...maybe more? Either way, I think it's putting the cart before the horse to talk about transfers for Pomykal....until he shows he can stay healthy, which I think has been one of your points all along.
Yup I think the more interesting case at FCD is Servania. He's about to enter his option years and hasn't signed a new deal. I think its time to figure out the future there..................... Brandon was/is on a huge initial contract compared to those received by Cannon, Ferreira, Pomykal, etc. North of $200k. So maybe there's less of an impetus to give a deserved pair raise compared to the other three. And part of the decision there for FCD might boil down to Tessmann. Is Tanner Tessman better than Brandon Servania? They both play that 8/6 role. If so, and you want to keep the assembly line moving, then maybe you either sell or trade Servania. Gotta keep the assembly line moving for the midfielders coming up....................(kind of like they moved Acosta and Ulloa to make room for the current group. And Hayes for that matter).
For now while Pomykal is out Servania makes sense as an all action midfielder. Tessmann is more comfortable deeper and but plays more progressively than Servania if you look at carries and passes into the final 3rd. Servania is more of a goal threat; Tessmann takes about 1.2 shots per 90 but they’re low quality. Servania shoots more often from better spots. Servania likes to receive the ball further up the field. Tessmann is a more natural 6, Servania is a hybrid. At this point FCD needs Tessmann more.
Tessmann doesn’t have the discipline and read of the game yet to be a #6 IMO. Maybe in a few years. I think he’s similar to McKennie in this regard. The skillset is that of a #6, but practically it doesn’t work yet.

And now involved in the 2nd goal. It's just crazy that when we watch him, we're still watching a 20 y/o kid. There's not many adults in the pro soccer world that are built like him.
